Just signed in and no longer have an amount of money to spend, so i'd say it's safe to assume that i've been rejected.0 -

When I applied for JD WIlliams, thanks to the good advice in this forum, I had zero credit history. I mean zero. No contract mobile phone, no current account, no credit card. Nothing. Not even Electoral Roll.
But I did have a CIFAS marker in my name placed by Cap1 and another in someone else's name placed by The Co-operative.
Well, I was accepted with an initial credit limit of £150. I have only purchased from them a DVD and some shoes, all for some £40, and they have increased my credit £100 in every statement ever since.
Previously I applied for Littlewoods and they said no. Then to Next Directory and they accepted me with £150 credit that was reduced to £100 a few days later.
Last month I applied for Cap1, Vanquis and Aqua and they all refused me. Have appealed though to both Cap1 and Aqua because I believe it is for the CIFAS in my name which should have been removed by now.
Probably the best response I have received from a credit card company was from Barclaycard a few days ago when I applied for the Barclaycard initial. First they gave me 60-70% chance of getting it and then when applied they said they needed more info from me and would get in contact.
I read some people have received the card after the same response, so I expect the same as they search Experian and my experian file does not have any bad info, not even the CIFAS.
Go and apply for the JD Williams catalogue. I believe it is best than the credit builder option. Also if you want another mobile contract in your file, get the SIM Zero from Three.
For basic bank accounts that report to your credit file as full accounts, go to Natwest Step account or RBS Key account. They let you apply online. Halifax easycash will not report.
Hope this helps.0 -

.
I was one of those who received a card after getting the 'more info' response from Barclaycard.
However, Barclaycard don't search Experian but search Equifax - hence why I presume I was accepted, as my default does not appear on my Equifax file but does on my Experian one.

Unfortunately I have just received today a letter saying my application has been unsuccessful. They refer to Experian and Equifax, so I suspect they might have made an additional check on my Experian file and found the CIFAS. Why? Probably because Equifax holds little info on me.
No Barclaycard by now... I will appeal though after a SAR to CIFAS.0 -
I have not had ANY credit for a few years now, due to CIFAS markers and bad debt, anyway, two weeks I applied for a T-Mobile SIM only tarriff, which got accepted, then Tuesday I applied for a Vanquis card which got accepted yesterday,a nd today I got accepted for a JD Williams account, I dont know whats happened but all of a sudden I seem credit worthy again, even though they are all made for people with bad credit, I am still over the moon.
Must be because I rarely go over my overdraft, and have not applied for anything in a while!?0 -

Interesting you say that actually - last August I applied for two mobile phone contracts (didn't mean to apply twice, but that's another story!!) and got accepted for a sim-only T-Mobile tariff with the promise of a new handset after 6 months and a full 24 month contract with Orange with a new handset immediately.
I recently applied for a JD Williams account and was accepted (even got what I ordered in the end !!) and I applied for a Vanquis card and haven't heard back yet ... which I know probably means a "no".
S'pose it comes in waves in a way ..0 -

If you had no previous searches, that has been good for you. I did have a few of them and got accepted both by Three for SIM only contract and JD Williams. Not by Vanquis.
Are your CIFAS still there? What category are they?0 -

To be honest, last time I checked it was about 2-3 years ago, probably closer to three thinking about it. I am not sure what category, as I didnt know much about them, but I had about 30 or so! I stopped applying for credit due to them.
I applied for Vanquis on Tue, they called me back on Wed to say I was accepted, so after getting T-Mobile and the Vanquis I thought I would try for JD Williams. Thats it for me though, will use these and get some regular payments going for a while before I try anything else. I read three months of payments with T-Mobile and I will be entitled toa full contract with handset - although I have to say I applied for, and was happy with the solo SIM, as I have an iPhone, and I am more than happy with that0 -
that is VERY stange, I applied for JD Williams, and it said I had £150 as a temporary measure until they process my application (I read this is standard procedure) and I logged out and back in, and my £150 had disapeared, anyway I left it a few hours and logged in, and got told I now had £150 to spend, I thought cool, anyway I didnt buy anything at that time. Now I just logged in to check the account and the £150 has gone again, but the £150 was there and available to spend for about 5 hours this evening?!
Edit: I have now gone back in, and it says I have £150 again, weird! Anyway I went to order, and it let me choose 'customer account' and all appears to have gone through, all so very strange0 -

I believe CIFAS markers remain for 13 months, so you shouldn't have any by now.
Just wait at least 6 months building some credit with your Vanquis card.
If you already have a mobile phone, SIM only rates are better than those that come with a handset. I'd rather buy an unlocked unbranded phone and get cheaper rates with SIM only.0
