  • Better have one of these reminders -

    Hi everybody.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

    Kind wishes

Is it just me or is the whole tone of DFW a bit sombre and doom-laden? Or are we picking up more people with problems the further we go into recession?

I think that since the split  that MSE knew this would happen:rolleyes:
    they were told enough
DFW is not a nice place to visit anymore, the whole DFW comunity spirit is gone:angry:

So how can we bring back the sunshine? I can see with so many sub-boards that people are spending a lot of time on one and have very little time left to visit others. After all, we do have lives outside MSE which demand our time and attention. On the other hand I could also see that the diaries were taking up a lot of space on this board and first-time posts from potential new members could be overlooked amongst all the blogs and diaries. I think some kind of flag system attached to first-time posts that keep them on page one for a while would help - that way we would all see them and they would get more replies. Anyway, off my soap-box for now - have a good afternoon everyone! (Hope the cheap bra and knickers don't disintegrate in the wash, Horace!)

Nargle - I too hope that the cheapo undies don't dissolve in the wash but if they do there were only cheapy cheap unlike the suntan lotion that was confiscated at the airport - what I should have done was decanted it into the spare plastic zip top bag that I bought from Boots for 20p on my way out (the airport ones cost £1:eek:).

Would it sound too desperate if I stopped by the airport tomorrow when Steve is due back?

DFW certainly isnt the same these days and I miss the newbie posts as they seem to get a bit lost.

Brrr...its flippin cold and I haven't been able to get warm all day - last night resorted to putting the electric blanket on:eek:

    Morning all,

sorry to hear that 'we' are feeling sad & gloomy.

I havent noticed any particular grimness recently but as we know, some people rarely venture out from diary land :D

If I spot a newbie who has no replies I will offer support & limited advice. I say limited as I dont know much about DMPs IVA's or claiming back overdraft or bank charges, I've not had to go down that route.

I also wonder whether maybe some old hands have sympathy fatigue. Some posters tend to not like advice given, disappear, then reappear with a whole new set of whinges / excuses as to why they cant cut down a couple of weeks later .

In my view, this becoming debt free malarkey is a long & winding journey. Circumstances do not always stay the some so we have to adapt along the way. There is period of euphoria at finally getting on the right track, followed by the bleakness of reality that a whole new life style change is required & not just for the short term either :(

I also think that people do forge friendships with certain others, as is perfectly normal in any social group & then may be so busy supporting & advising those they feel a connection with, that they dont have so much time for general postings.

That's just my opinion this morning & anyway, I'm far too busy baking & eating chocolate weetabix brownies to hang around here ;):rotfl:
