Watching the antiques roadshow isnt sad rog..its informative as you might just have one of those candlesticks lurking the back of your cupboard
I wish, H, I wish.
'Flog It' is coming to our town in a couple of weeks - my wife is busy digging through the dust at the back of the cupboards and on top of the wardrobe - bless her - so I'll let you know if we find any 'hidden treasure'. :rotfl: :rotfl:
Good morning one and all (except the Trolls) :hello: :hello: :hello:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Morning all
The sun is currently out but not for long as we have thunderstorms forecast for later:rolleyes:
I can remember when the Antiques Roadshow rolled into the University, I volunteered to stand there with the tally clicker to click people in. I remember taking some bits to be valued too - one wierd shaped jug with slight crack picked up at a boot sale, turned out to be Minton (had old lozenge shaped mark on back) worth about £90, 1 silver trophy (cost me nowt as I got it when I cleared my mate's house of tat) worth £120 (won by Mr Harris's Irish Terrier Barney, Montreal in 1910), a victorian brooch which was described by the jewellery chap (the one with dark hair) as being the most hideous piece of victoriana he had ever seen and therefore worth nothing:rotfl: Well it is a hideous brooch made from a real stuffed fish that has a beady glass eye, is varnished heavily and has little red dots on it to make it look like a trout:eek: The varnish on the tail is slightly damaged because as a five year old I took a bite to see if it was real - this was given to me by my paternal grandmother. I also had a set of Edwardian enamelled coffee spoons that were worth about £90. I still have these wonderful pieces.0 -
Grrrr
Wouldn't you just know it. I work until 3.30am to complete some work for a meeting today- and now I've just had a call from them to postpone the meeting . Still at least I can check through all the work and tidy it up a bit.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I hate it when that happens.
Although you must be mad to stay up til 3.30am preparing for the meeting - I hope your boss has paid you overtime?0 -
Hi everybody.
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.
If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.
what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?
firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.
The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!
It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.
Kind wishes
P

Sorry to hear that, Tixy - as everyone here knows, 'Brown Stuff' happens when you least want it to.
