No a car in vegas is pointless it aint that big however I dissagree on people saying fly to LA.
When you factor in getting a cab to vegas airport and getting there an hour before then getting another cab in La and having to shift you bags each time too there will be nowt in it I suppose. plus you can have a better look around in a car stop off here and there make a day of it on its own.
I hate flying and airports so I'm slightly biased.0 -

you pays your money, you takes your choice. If you dislike flying then spending 1/2 a day each way driving through the desert is a good option.
fatboyonadiet ,an idea that you may want to consider is flying man-LA-Las-Man if you can do it economically.
& I don't mean to put a spanner in your works, but I found LA to be (looking for the proper word) crap.
IMHO San Diego is a much, much, much nicer destination for a holiday.
Given that flight prices are so cheap in America, this may be a real (money saving) option for you.
Man - San Diego (for a few days) - Los angales (if you insist for a few days)-Las Vegas (for a few days) - Manchester. If you fancy it American Airlines (first airline I looked at) will do it for £518 incl tax or a bit less if you take a slightly less direct route - just a thought for you.

Manchester to LA (indirect) is working out around £450 and Manchester to Vegas (direct) is looking at around £700:eek: To Vegas takes around 10 hours and LA takes about 14...2p off is still 2p off!0

dont forget some lip balm as i paid heavily for not bothering as 24/7 air conditioning sure cracks your lips up!
another free tip is to collect all the calling cards as you walk down the strip. by the end of the week you have got a great collection of scantily clad women snap cards for passing time on that long flight home.
enjoyed freemont street but not as big as i had envisaged.0 -

hi fatboyonadiet
I love it when I get the chance to sink my teeth into something.
I managed to get the itinerary with aa for £489.80 incl tax. I took a stab at the dates of Sat 09.09.06 from Man to LAX, Sat 16.09.09 LAX to LAS, Wed 20.09.06 LAS to Man. You can tinker with the dates a bit, but it doesn't change the final price much.
Which is a £200 saving and fits in well with your original holiday plan.

fatboyonadiet wrote:Cheers all, plenty for me to think about, I think I'm getting put off driving from LA to Vegas but need to have a proper think about it. Guess if it's cheaper I'll fly to Vegas and get a flight onto LA as I'd rather go there first. I take it the flight doesn't take long.
People have told me it is worth getting a car in LA, is it not worth it in Vegas? Not even a Ford Mustang
I know I am in the minority here, but we drove Vegas to San francisco (longer than L.A but you take the same route through the desert) and loved it! It was a proper American road trip adventure and we will definitely do it again. I am also happy to have any excuse to avoid LAX airport.
I agree about the Luxor, we also like the MGM Grand but the Luxor is definitely good value.0 -
