oh and dont stay in excalibur its crap if I ever go to vegas again which I doubt I'd deff stay in a smaller hotel
The Luxor was great for us - and we went on an inclinator for the first & last time of our lives.
WWW.luxor.com promises to have the best prices for the hotel (don't know if it's true or not), but the prices do fluctuate a lot (in Las Vegas) if a conference is on.
Also, a helicoptor ride to the Grand Canyon (with a ranch stop off) and a flight back along the strip is worth every $.

I've just got home from vegas (got in at 5am Sunday). We stayed at the Stardust which is a bit up to road from the main part of the strip. The room was OK but hadn't got a fridge which I found annoying as you couldn't keep drinks cool in the room. There wasn't a coffee machine in the room either so no laying in bed morning coffee. Dunno if this is standard for LV room but every where else we stayed had fridges and coffee makers (san francisco and yosemite). This end of the strip seemed a bit run down compaired to the rest of the strip, the hotel nextdoor is circus circus which looks like blackpool on a bad day.
On the last night we took the Deuce bus ($5 all day) in to fremont street and it was a totally different atmosphere to the strip, much more lively. the casinos here were all buzzing where as the ones on the strip seem rather somber in comparison.
If I was to return I think I would go for downtown over the strip probably the Goldern Nugget.
Petrol is now $3.05 a gallon but I personnally wouldn't bother with a car in vegas.
For the record I lost a total of $80 playing video poker.Nothing to see here, move along.0 -
excalibur never had a coffee maker in the room neither and considering its like a half mile walk to the closest cafe it was a nightmare.0

i'll second the luxor as a great place to stay.
if you get a taxi anywhere agree the price before hand as theres a terrifc variation and some dodgy cabbies about particularly from airport to hotel when they know u r tired and having not got your bearings.
try the duelling piano bars for a cheap night of fun entertainment.
you pay for a your drink and they play ,sing and fool around.let others tip for song requests as your favourite will be in their somewhere.depending how much you drink depends on whether you have a cheap or not so cheap night out.0 -
p.s dont miss the blue man group in vegas !0

Your looking around 4-5 hours, but its all desert!
Its just as easy to fly as just as cheap.0 -
Unless you particularly want to site-see some areas then I would say fly between LA and LV rather than drive. We drove once, it took all day but we did various site seeing detours (Palm Springs, Yukka Valley, Loughlin etc.) even managed to get a speeding ticket and had to visit Judge Vida to pay it.

Hire a Hummer or Viper or something mad for the day in Vegas!
I did it and it was the coolest thing to do EVER!2p off is still 2p off!0 -
Cheers all, plenty for me to think about, I think I'm getting put off driving from LA to Vegas but need to have a proper think about it. Guess if it's cheaper I'll fly to Vegas and get a flight onto LA as I'd rather go there first. I take it the flight doesn't take long.
People have told me it is worth getting a car in LA, is it not worth it in Vegas? Not even a Ford Mustang2p off is still 2p off!0
