I think the cheapest is in the following order:

Thomas Global Exchange (based in London)
Travelex online and then pick up from airport
    M&S
    Post Office

If you're not in or near London order online from Travelex and pick it up from the airport just before you fly, but order it and pay online, then get the number of Google for Thomas Global Exchange and call them on the same day you order to ask what their rate is, drop an e-mail or call to Travelex and under their price guarantee promise they will match it and refund the difference.

Done this a few times myself and normally drop them an e-mail, I normally find a cheque waiting for me when I get home. Be warned though try to use an electron or maestro card for ordering curreny online, other cards will charge a fee even Visa delta/debits. HTH.

Another top tip is that if you have an M&S &More card and you spend over £500, it is delivered free, you get a good rate, they'll take the remainer back at a good rate, but THEY DO NOT DO A CASH ADVANCE CHARGE - which on £500 can be about £12.50 on a typical foreign exchange currency purchase on your plastic.

M&S should be above the Post Office as todays rates are 1.780 for the P.O , but 1.803 for M%S , which seems to be the same rate for Travelex too icon7.gif
Same old same old since 2008

  • Just back from the States, and in my experience, don't worry too much about using an ATM out there. If you take out large sums less frequently (as opposed to small amounts as and when you need them), the difference is normally nominal.

Due to exchange rates and the £ being strong is it not best to take £ and exchange them for $? I'm going to get some before I got but plan on exchanging the rest when I'm over there.

good choice e-python i flew with them in may to vegas. my tip is the twilight check in the day before. you might be able to get a emergency exit seat. don,t get a window or middle sit try to get at least one aisle seat.

TOP TIP get near the front of the plane or else you will have along wait for border control at the other end.

Take a mixture of cash, t-cheques and cards, but remember to keep them separate, so you don't have all your eggs in one basket so to speak. I normally keep my primary cards in my wallet and any other cards i have, I keep with my travel stuff in the room/hotel safe.
