It is a funny old world isn't it?
Whilst I respect your decision, you did tell us that you felt guilty so I think you do understand what the issue may be. I understand that you need to defend yourself which is more than fair but you're starting to turn now for the sake of an argument.
No one makes a profit out of dumping a dog at a rescue centre. The other option is too horrid to think about. My dog is coming from a rescue centre - we've had issues on the 'kids and cat' front but over three months of constant visiting and we've hopefully found our dog. My reason for going wasn't because of puppy farms - I didn't grasp that initially, I just felt sorry for the dogs. Where they came from doesn't really matter as long as they're going to good homes now. I was starting to consider a new puppy but I'm glad I didn't need to go that route.
Your puppy does look beautiful. I hope you all have a happy life together.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The fact you just come out with insults such as this really does show what kind of person you are. Well done.0 -

I REHOMED her with someone I knew and trusted, so no you do not have to pick up the peices of anything I have done.
I could of sent her to a Home, but I didn't want to.
So read what I have writted again and then tell me that anything I have done involves rescue centres? no it doesn't.
So in future get your facts straight before you get on your high horse
So when you have walked in MY shoes, dont you dare critisie me!
So when this dog looks at your baby a bit funny or chews your sofa because you don't have time to exercise it or it goes to toilet on your carpet because you don't have time to toilet train it lets hope you have another friend to dump the dog on?0 -
Congrats on your new puppy, its a nice ending to the thread
Dont condone puppies been sold through pet shops as i am a KC reg and Acredited breeder so all my knowledge goes no were near those places.. no point in people commenting now is there?? Its your choice, you chose to have her, your happy
Someone else would of only got her having a go at 1 person does not solve what other people do
Make sure you get her microchipped, vaccinations etc and take her and get her checked out by the vet when you can too just to make sure shes in 100% good heath. Anyways have fun with your new puppy if you need any help PM me and i will be glad to help you.

Hang on just a second there - Thats EXTREMELY harsh of you. Would you condone keeping a dog if you were fearful that it might bite once your back was turned? or would you see it as "aww hes a part of the family, he didnt mean any harm" The poster GAVE her dog to a FRIEND, not some shelter, not some trailer or wheeler dealer but someone they know and who will look after the dog. ANY DOG - trained, untrained, young or old, CAN AND WILL turn if it wants to, they dont have to be provoked - I know it happens, ive seen it happen.
I have had problems with my neighbours dog. My daughter is terrified of it and i am so scared that i have a pitchfork waiting on him to attack. Ive told the neighbours, the RSPCA and the police that if he grabs my daughter and is attacking her, im going straight for his head with that pitchfork. The dogs trained, hes looked after but he thinks my yard is his territory and my daughter is trespassing. Believe me, i wouldnt blink an eye lid if i killed him and saved my daughter from potentially being killed.
The people complaining about how they volunteer in the shelters and have to deal with peoples left behinds. Well done for the work you do. But if you dont agree with the shelter idea (as in people taking their animals there when they can no longer keep them) then dont bother working there! Not all owners are irresponsible people, some times situations happen and the animals need to be removed from the house asap for various reasons. At least these owners are taking them to shelters rather than putting them in bin liners with a few bricks and throwing them into the river.
And no - im not an animal hater, we have a budgie, a dog and a horse. But as much as i love our dog, if he should ever nip at my daughter, or anyone else for that matter, it would be the last time - Id make sure of that.0 -

I know your sarcastic comment was at my post but I wonder if the poster who works at the rescue centre works for the big one in question. I can tell her about the puppies, when and how they got to the centre, what their names were - since been changed - and their 'age' at homing. Turns out this age was different by almost 3 weeks on the dogs card though. Why would a reputable shelter do this.... unless it was to get rid of the puppy ASAP before it cost more money. or maybe they just got it wrong. Either way though....
Doozer, yes I did feel guilty to start with because of what is 'expected' of you but there is no way this puppy has come from a 'farm' with no daylight or human contact. Had she been afraid of us then there is no way I would have considered it and the other dogs we were not interested in, I can understand that homes do not sell them for profit - but someone somewhere gets paid for the work they do in that organisation so I beg to differ. I've actually received a mail out from said organisation this morning - all of this costs money.
I looked on the big pets website (I looked because someone on here mentioned it) and I just spent my time wondering where the dogs came from too. Some people just wrote in text speak on the ads and that put me off, and there are endless dogs for stud on there. Having thought more on it while I was hoovering - as you do - every puppy is born with the intention of making the owner money and then, if they cannot sell them or they get sick, they just dump them. It is sad but it's true. People would not have a litter of puppies for them all to live at their house and no-one ever gives them away, they all have a price tag on their head. The unlucky/lucky ones are the ones who end up in re-homing centres but not everyone is able to rehome from there.
Who is the bad person, the breeder (who you really have no idea if they are a farm, they could just bring the dog into the house before you arrive to look), the person on benefits breeding from their dog to make more money, the irresponsible person who did not get their dog spayed?
It would be nice to think you could put an end to puppy farms but you cannot. Puppies are a commodity and while there are people who want to make a living from them then it will continue. Sorry, but it will. Whether people buy them from shops or not it will not stop because they can always dump them at shelters.
You know, I felt bad for a while but had not given it much thought for the last week or so but after writing on this thread in response to some of the comments and after being slated it has given me some thought in that wherever you get your puppy or dog from, whatever it's age, it was intended to make someone some money. I do not feel bad anymore as my dog has got a nice home now. Until the homing centres are more lapse in who they let rehome their dogs (the RSPCA made my friend and her family - including a toddler - pay £8 to walk round and look at their dogs before informing them they could not have one from them anyway because they had a toddler!! She said she almost asked for her £8 back) then there will always be unsuitable people who buy or take on a dog that they have not really thought about. It is a huge vicious circle. Will you ever stop it? No, you won't. Lecturing people about it being bad is not going to work either, especially if you end up with a nice loyal dog that fits in with the family.
However, for all of the reasons you outlined this is why we bought a puppy and this is why we made sure she was fine with the kids before we took her home and we also went off to think about it. I tried all of the shelters, some had no puppies and some never called me back, some would not let us have them with kids under 7, 8 or 12, the one that did have puppies never contacted me after they said they would and I've since found a site that damns the conditions their animals are kept in at the adjoining 'farm park'. Did we go out looking? No, but we found her regardless and she is here now so what is done, is done.0 -

Its not so much the fact she gave her dog away. I can understand why someone would do that. Its the fact she decided to get another dog. If she wanted a dog so much she should have worked on the problems the dog had (if any) or took steps to make sure the dog was never left alone or even in the same room ever until the child got older. The fact she threw the dog away and got a new one is awful regardless of where the dog went.
I think a dog acting funny around a baby is very different to a neighbour having an aggressive dog.0 -

Its rubbish to think people are going breed dogs for profit regardless if anyone buys them or not. If no-one buys the dog they wouldn't waste their money on the costs of looking after the dogs. They would do something else to make money on the cheap.
Secondly I have never ever been to a RSCPA or Dogs Trust centre where they charge you £8 to look round at the dogs. In fact most RSCPA centres don't let you wander round looking at the dogs. They let you browse a book of the dogs and then bring out the dogs to you that your interested in. So that people pick the dog that is most suited to them rather than the one looking the saddest or cutest at the kennel door. If I was asked to pay £8 to look at dogs to adopt I would go somewhere else.0 -

Thank you. Yes we have done all of that within the first week - I even took her to a 2nd vet for a 2nd opinion as I was not happy with the first vet being thourough enough. She has been given a clean bill of health twice though. I said above she is chipped, all jabs done and insured, tonight she goes 'to school' and it's a family outing because we all have to learn. As you say, what is done it is done. Bless her, I do not think she would get KC registered anyway. :rotfl:
I take her out in the car and she happily sits on the front seat and I try to take her places where it is busy so she get's used to cars, people, kids, bikes, other dogs, the lead, etc... She is fine on the road as outside our house we have no path and a lot of traffic coming past. Hey, my husband even puppy proofed the garden with Man Flu :T. He would normally have been on the chair whinging!! And I've got lots of new 'doggy friends' too. Only people I have found I suddenly have lots of visitors and they are only coming around to see the new dog and not us. FIL called the other day (he never calls) and it was to find out how the dog was. :rotfl:
She has been to the vets as well when she started sneezing and I thought she had something up her nose so I called the vets right away and got an appointment for 20 minutes later. I was a bit concerned and I was (it seems now) probably too hasty but I'd rather her be checked.
I've never had a dog before so I've a few books and I want to make sure I do everything right. But, I think I am doing a good job, we ignore her when we eat and she goes to her bed instead, she is very food motivated so we have been able to treach her basic things such as sitting on command and getting down. I am loving every single minute - even when she chases after the mops and grabs onto it when I am trying to mop up the wee. I've been getting up first so I can take her out for a wee before the kids come down as she is still leaking when excited and she would rather say good morning than go for a wee!!
And when she gets on the sofa and will not look at me for more than 1 second as she knows she is not supposed to be on there and gets off with a big sigh when I tell her to get down. :rotfl: It seems like she has been in the house forever with us now though.
Thank you also for the offer of some help, I will bear that in mind. Can you dust....0
