MSE News: Warning for Eon capped rate customers

I don't think that there is a set fee, but I normally receive a bill every 3 months. The last one I received was at the end of June. I think I read that if I leave that my list bill will be made up witout any discounts as way of a penalty. Does that mean that my usage of gas and electricity from June until the time of a switch would be charged at the standard rate (if so can somebody give me deatials of what these are?)
Thanks,
Paul
Hi Paul
There are no exit fees on either Price Protection 15 or its replacement, Price Protection R3.
You are quite right, though, we will not give discount on the final bill should you decide to change supplier. The best thing to do would be to time your switch so that it completes in the minimum amount of time between the previous bill and the final bill.
As your last bill was the end of June the next one will be due at the end of September. This is when your current tariff ends. It may be an idea to time the switch so it goes through after then. Ideally, as near to the end date as possible. This will mean you only lose a few days discount rather than a full quarters.
If you don't contact us your account will automatically be put on the replacement Price Protection R3 tariff. Prices will be on the letter we sent you.
As this is a protected tariff, these prices carry a premium above our standard rates. There are, therefore, cheaper tariffs available.
If your switch to another supplier completes after Price Protection 15 ends on 1 October 2009 it will be better for you to go on to one of these cheaper tariffs for the period between 1 October and the switch.
It all depends on the timing.
Changing tariffs is quick and easy. Either give us a call or switch yourself through our website.
Prices for the alternative tariffs are also available on the website.
Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need more info.

If I was to switch to one of the other cheaper EON tariffs right now, how would this quarters bill be calculated? Would Price Protection 15 prices be used from end of June until today, then the new tariff from today until end of September?
Thanks,

Hi Paul
Spot on. If you switch tariffs today you will be charged on Price Protection 15 from your last bill in June until today.
After this and up until you leave you will be charged at the prices on whichever new tariff you choose.
Price Protection 15 was available in the middle of 2008. Since then there has been a price rise and a decrease. Just make sure you compare the new tariff with your current prices rather than the new R3 rates.
Sorry Paul, don't mean to state the obvious, just want to make sure you are on the best rates.

Hi Malc
I logged into the website and clicked 'Switch Now'. The products that I could switch to all appeared to have higher rates than the Price Protection 15 that I am currently on.
Can you tell me what the Standard Rates are that I would be charged if I initiated a switch before my next bill?
How long does a switch take? If I initaited a switch now, would it have completed before I receive my next bill?
Thanks,
Paul0 -
I switched to a new tariff about a week or so ago. Stuck with EoN due to a reduction in my monthly DD, a decent sized credit heading into the autumn/winter period, and the clubcard points.Where there's a will, there's a way to get something cheaper from somewhere else!!0

Hi Paul
If our new products have higher prices than your current tariff it will probably be better to stay as you are until 1 October 2009.
Standard rates depend on the area you are in. If you select E.ON Energy Plan on the website and then More Details your rates will be displayed there.
Switching tariffs can be done quickly and easily. If you give us a call the switch can be done whilst you are on the phone. Alternatively, you can do it yourself if you wish through the website.
Hope this helps.

Hello, lovely helpful people! I too want to stay with Eon, my capped plan comes to an end on 1st Oct and I'm looking at the 2 online saver plans. The difference appears to be this daily standing charge thingummy. Now, my circumstances changed last year and I'm now being a really good MSE'er, using very little power, switching everything off when not in use etc. Some days, if i'm at work, it's just the fridge on all day!
Am I right in thinking, then, that the plan WITHOUT the daily standing charge would be better for such a low user??
Also, whilst I was doing all my research last week I got momentarily distracted by SimplySwitch's lure of Amazon vouchers and signed up for Npower. I have now come to my MSE sense and realise I am better off staying put and just going to the library (lovely shiny books are my achilles heel...). But I still haven't been sent any Npower stuff and am worried that if I run past this 7 day cooling off, I will be stuck with them. Should I phone N power before I even have the welcome pack or sit tight for another couple of days?
Thanks in advance0 -

Hi nonnatus
There is very little difference between the No Standing Charge and Standing Charge versions of our Save Online tariff for most usage.
Standing Charge tariffs charge a daily rate regardless of whether or not energy is used. Therefore, for very low users the No Standing Charge option would definitely be better.
Best thing to do is pop your usage on to one of the comparison charts and see how we do. This would give a much fuller picture.
Hope this helps.

still havent received letter so called just now
Told to wait for my letter but the woman was very helpful and it looks as though the cost of heating my home this winter will rise!
It cost us £800 last year (for gas and electric) and probably £1000 next year but I thought prices had come DOWN?
Also, WHY are these letters being sent out so late, giving customers very little time to decide????????????
I think there should be a quango to complain to?:j:j:j0 -
