Just a wee spend today in Lidl, took advantage of fruit offers - 10 smallish pears for 49p and 8 small green bananas @ 59p plus some oatcakes also 59p. Bought the pears last week and they were lovely.
    Will update total.

Will be doing the weekly shop tomorrow in Mr M but as still trying to use up freezer stuff, shouldn't spend too much.
  • MRSMC - glad you've got your Op date and got some time to get organised - your Hubby is going to be well fed while you are in Hospital by the looks of that list.:A Hope all goes well with the Op, we will all be thinking of you.;)

A NSD again today and hoping it stays that way until Sunday, fingers crossed. Dinner tonight was Spag Bol and a lovely bowl of salad and a Rice Pudding for after, a special request from the kids as we haven't had one for ages.:D
    "WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"
GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

  • Well that was an expensive shop..................£54

But we did get £15 worth of whoopsies that would of cost £25 and we got offers that cost £22 and should of cost £35 so made savings of £23 and thats how I justify it lol

We now have enough beer to last till the end of the month [she says hopefully]

    Hello all
NSD again here (grocery wise anyway, non-grocery spends are astronomical today )

    Breakfast: Late again :(
Lunch: Pate, toast, crisps, fruit, chocolate
    Dinner: Chilli with jacket potato

Oh - and I got a hamper from work. Our companies founder got a knighthood back in June, and to mark to occasion he has given every one in the business a hamper. It contained: English Provender Plum Chutney & Lemon Curd, Thorntons chocs, slab of fruit cake, flower seeds and a little teddy. I thought it was a really lovely gesture :)

    Morning all

Well we haven't been doing too badly this month and it has really helped that the OH is trying to sort out his finances so is keeping a spending diary so can actually give me accurate figures.

I haven't included our latest Tescos shop in my siggy yet as we returned some items and are not sure what the final total will be, but we have had an Approved foods order this week and my OH got some real bargains at Morrisons one night (mostly deli meat pies knocked down to 10p each which we have frozen for lazy dinners!).

Made corned beef pasties again yesterday and they were delicious...

    Divas Corned Beef pasties:
    • I had about 5 boiled pots left from the previous night so just cubed them. Last time I used the last three wrinkly pots from the bottom of the cupboard and just par boiled them!
    • Then I chopped a medium onion, a clove of garlic and a medium orange pepper (all from my garden - but that isn't obligatory; plus I wouldn't have enough for everybody! :p) quite finely and added to the potato.
    • I used about 1/2 tin corned beef and cut it into small cubes and mixed it all in with a healthy amount of black pepper and a pinch of salt.
    • Then I divided my pastry into four and rolled them out into rough circles and plonked 1/4 of the filling down the middle.
    • I painted the edges with milk, pulled the pastry up and crimped it, and then painted the whole thing with more milk and cooked them for about 20-25 mins til the pastry looked nice and brown.
Think I did them at around 170/180 degrees. My OH ate two but one was more than enough for me, they are quite filling.
Picture of my OHs dinnerplate from last time! (Didn't take pics this time we were too hungry and ate them too fast!! We served them with beans and a big salad.

Hope everyones challenge is going well. Have yet to have a NSD yet but that will come I am sure!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.
If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...

I have totted up my September spends and have spent £181.67 so far. I seem to have spent less than I normally do which is a bit of a suprise as with everything that has been going on these last few weeks I haven't meal planned, cooked from scratch or even made a shopping list half the time:confused:

Will update my total with Spetember's figure and a best guestimate for Aug.
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%

  • Good morning! I'm really enjoying this money-saving lark. Finding yellow-stickered freezable food is just so exciting! So far this month I've spent £60.80 - still under half, and my freezer and store cupboards are pretty full. I went on my first Rubber Chicken Adventure this week - Roast on Sunday, Curry on Monday and Soup on Wednesday. The soup made 7 portions, and there was just enough meat left for a sandwich each for me and my OH for lunch. Not bad! This weekend should be fairly cheap as we're going to a family party (free food!). I have lots of baking to do as I still have lots of eggs (OH went past a farm shop and got a whole tray of large FR eggs for £3, as well as lots of potatoes), so I've been baking a freezing like a woman possessed!
Have to pop to the shops this afternoon, but only need cereal, bananas, shampoo and some veg to feed my bunnies. Should be another cheap week! Hooray!
