Ooh, I'm the opposite. I have timed my Morrisons visits to perfection now and can normally pick up at least one 9p bargain from the Whoopsies shelf :rotfl:

If I buy online I buy more to try and make the price up to the free delivery mark!

This is what I used to do too !! Rather than think I need x, y and z, I would buy much more than I needed because I needed to spend so much to qualify for money off / free delivery etc. I would get "click happy" and order loads of stuff "just in case".

I havent used Mr A for ages for a home delivery shop and they keep e-mailing me saying free delivery, we miss you. The voucher runs out so they keep sending me another one!! Only problem is, they want me to spend £50 to get the free delivery, now if they reduced that to £25 then I might consider doing a shop but only if I have planned properly first! I actually prefer Mr T though - better website and fruit and veg always really nice. I have had some problems with what has been picked with Mr A and even though they have "improved" their website, I actually think its worse!!
  • Morning everyone - have some parsnips and swede to use up so had a Lightbulb moment this morning, as it's like Winter down here this morning with the wind blowing a Gale and the rain looking like it's coming soon, I've decided to make MRSMC's Corned Beef Hash.

Last time I made it there was loads left and used that to make a Pie and the reserved stock from boiling the veg was used in a Soup. Thanks again MRSMC.:D

So that's Dinner tonight sorted, just need to think about a Pudding, plenty of Blackberries and Raspberries in the Garden, Apples also starting to drop off the tree so maybe some sort of Crumble or sponge.;)

Hope you all have a good day.:D

    Aldi super six

    Tomatoes - 69p, necterines -69p , courgettes - 59p, spring onions - 29p, grapes - 69p, iceberg - 39p.
They may be on offer, but the super 6 (at 49p each) is

apples, oranges, potatoes (2kg), leeks and two others I can't recall !!!

For some reason the Super 6 page on the website hasn't been showing the actual items for the last week (at least)

** Edit ** Just back from the store. The others are corn on the cob and kiwi fruit. The apples, oranges and kiwi are in packs of 6. The sweetcorn is a pack of 3. The leeks seems to be packs of 2 or 3 (probably weight based?)

  • Really need to join this challenge - hope I'm not too late. We've got a really busy month and not much money to do it on so I'm going to try to use up everything in my freezer and store cupboards so that I can keep my budget low. I'm aiming for £100!! That's for everything for a 2 adults and 3 children!!!

Don't need any cleaning/household stuff or toiletries and should have enough nappies and wipes for the baby. She only has 2 bottles a day now so I should only need to buy one other box of formula this month and I've got lots of meals frozen for her already.

I know it's going to be tight but if I can get close it will be great as I really don't want to resort to using my credit card. Wish me luck - think I'll need it!!

  • can i set a budget of £400 for sept

ive not been in recently as ive got a trapped nerve in my shoudler so ive been asvoiding the puter and my knitting as it as getting too painful.

kids are back at school so the constant 'snacking' will now be replaced by pack ups. which should be a similar priced trade off.
need to ddefrost the freezer soon so running that down will then start a regular baking day again to get the muffins etc for lunchboxes and do some batch bakes of lasagne etc
being veggie my biggest spend seems to be on quorn type products (i have a veggie who doesnt actually like vegetables:confused:) and DH prefers the mince type lasages to the veggie ones made with aubergines etc - unless i was just unlucky with the recipie i tried.
want to start tightening up so i can pull in the christmas cake and pudding ingredients and a few non perishables i can stash away

Cannot remember the last time I had one of those :D

    Have a good day everyone

Total for September is $600 for two adults and one cat :)

    Spent $19.60 so far.

600ml diet coke $3.15 (drank whilst shopping)
    Chicken $7.92
    1kg basmati rice $4.50
    1 onion $0.60
    95gram tin of tuna $1.85
    6 pack of crumpets $1.00
1 loose brown bread roll $0.60

As we still dont have a fridge or all our belongings so shopping / cooking is difficult. I have to buy small tins of tuna and single bread rolls daily for work lunches as they wont keep.

Im making chicken curry with rice tonight (sauce from storecupboard), crumpets are for breakfast and tuna roll is for lunch tomorrow. Not great value for money but its they only way we can do things right now, hopefully not for much longer though.

I was going to work my budget out payday to payday (15th of the month) but in a bid to budget better im going to do it month by month.

I know $600 per month seems a lot but im still restocking my store cupboard following our move.

    Good luck eveyone,

    Pix

Ive just remembered that I also brought 3 x 6 packs of take away style containers to use for batch cooking - should i include the cost of these in my total spend?

    3 x $4.00 reusable food containers.

    Thanks

    Pix

  • This is my first Grocery Challenge and so far so good. I spent £20.84 on the weekly shop and that's it. I've decided to run my month from 29/08-30/09 (payday-payday), so so far I've spent £20.84. I have fairly well stocked cupboards and freezer, so I hope to not spend too much this month! Of course, my OH has a nasty habit of buying chocolate and biscuits on his way to work <sigh>, so he might throw me out abit.
We're trying to save up £12,000 for a deposit on a house, so every penny is needed!

yesterday was a NSD so nothing to report, except that I have started a spend diary where I am going to jot down everything I spend (groceries and non-groceries) down to the last penny. I'm only going to do this for September (I don't think I'd have the patience to do it for much longer but who knows). What I hope to achieve is to work out an accurate breakdown of where my money goes. I already do this with groceries (I keep the receipts as advised here) but I thought it could be good to look at non-groceries too.
