Last day of my hols and I have to make the most of it! I have made a pastry case (which is chilling in the fridge) for a quiche. I have some thin sliced ham which goes out of date today and a pot of creme fraiche which needs using up. I thought I would try using some of my chard too and do a ham and 'spinach' type quiche. I will let you know how it goes.

I realise that I bought the creme fraiche on implulse - it wasn't on my list - and I have been feeling guilty about not using it. It goes to show that you should only buy what's on the list! If I wasn't making the quiche I would have had to throw it out and I hate waste.

The ham was Sainsbury's Taste the Difference thin sliced ham and I bought 2 for £2 (I think). However, it was so thin sliced that you couldn't separate the slices! This meant it didn't go as far as I had hoped so not such a bargain eh!

Oh well, off to my pilates class - I don't usually go in the mornings but didn't think I would feel like it tomorrow evening after my first day back at work (groan)! Will catch up later. Have a good day everyone.

    Hi all,

My first post on the September GC. I've decided not to set a target this month as I have a BIG birthday next week (double top) and we have around 80 people coming over on Sunday 13th for a garden party. This will involve lots of food and drink, most of which I will buy from CostCo (hopefully) so I don't want to set a target only to blow it in one go!!

Our car also failed its MOT last week on major things such as steering and tyres. 'Luckily' MIL/FIL gifted us some money last month, so this will probably all go on the car and the big party. Great timing

Mealplan-wise I shouldn't need to go shopping until Thursday when the children go back to school. I have 3 x takeaway plastic boxes of blackberries in the freezer, 1 of rhubarb (all from the garden), plus raspberries and blackberries from MIL. I can see some crumbles coming on. MIL also gave me 2lb of greengages which I'm assuming can be used just like plums??

Off to update sig. Will be reading along this month and will post if I see any bargains!

Well did my first shop for September yesterday, we had seriously ran down the cupboards and everything i bought was needed so don't feel too bad. So i spent £35.29 went in three shops Sainsburys, Aldi and Lidl got the ALdi super 6 twice over plus some extra salad bits cucumber 48p, iceberg lettuce 39p, spring onions 29p so petting good deals. Lidl pointed cabbages were 29 p so got one and a loaf of bread for 75p yes lazy i know.

Made another 3 1/2 jars of bramble jam, 1 large jar of elderberries and put two bags of elder in the freezer.Hopefully the fresh stuff will last the week, as the boys are back at school tomorrow.

  • Well Sainsburys today for my shop. I have tried online and have tried monthly but what seems to work for me is to buy daily. Does not suit everyone but works for me.

Spent £17.31 so allowing ( as I do ) £10 per day between pay days I am 0.35p in credit for the month :D. Not a lot but "every little counts" as they say at Mr T.

Hope you all have a great day

  • Can I rejoin please? £200 for September.

I have been off work for 6 months, and found it easy to cook from scratch and shop around, but I return this afternoon:eek: so need to make sure I stay on the straight and narrow as it is so tempting when working full time to grab a ready meal/take away on the way home.

I need to start meal planning again, but at least my freezer has a fair bit stashed away.

I want to go lower but we have a guest comming for a few days, and I need to ease myself back in.

    Thanks

Morning all - shop later for a few bits so will adjust total when done

Just made Banana bread cos 3 bananas were putting on their coats and walking out the door!!! First time I've made it so will update later on taste. Also going to try Flapjacks - made some last week but they were a disaster [no idea why] I had to soak the tin overnight to get it off! Not impressed as it was a complete waste of ingredients and would of been cheaper to buy some!!! Grrrrrr

Well this is going to be my first month - there are now 4 adults and 1 baby living in the house - plus a part-time adult - (daughters boyfriend has dinner here every night and also 2 cats) so am going to set an initial budget of £100 a week. So will make that £400 for September please. Also can I ask does it really work out cheaper making your own bread have not got a breadmaker but am thinking of getting one. THANKS

  • Hi All - i have been sooo looking forward to this thread. I watched the August one with increasing interest. I decided to join the Sept one as this is something I need to do. My month runs from 25th or closest work day to it if on a w/e. So pay day's just been but I was on hols so couldn't post and my first ever grocery challenge month goal is £200. That's for my, dh and dd (2). It includes cleaning products and so on but I have enough of those to last me a life time!
i am going to tot up what I have spent already and will post shortly.

    Good luck all!
