Another vote for Rug Doctor here, we hire ours from Homebase.
They are scarily good, I have never seen so much muck come out of a carpet!
They leave the carpets really dry too, no problem with them at all.

Rug doctor gets my vote! We hire one once a year. Its simple to use and it's the best cleaner I know.
Vax was next to useless...I bought one used it 3 times and it was so complicated, left the carpet very wet and didn't clean it very well.
There must be a website somewhere that lists rug doctor stockists?? I'll have a look.

I've seen the Rug Doctor advertised, it looks huge and bulky!
Rug doctor is the make of the one i hired from homebase.I used to work in a care home for people with dementia and the carpets got into such a state each day but that model did the trick and it is very very easy to use and doesnt leave your carpet soaking wet
good luck0 -
As much as I'd just like to hire a cleaner, the nearest big town where I could get it is 30mins drive so that's 120mins (approx for there and back and then there and back again to give it back) thus wasting petrol (and at £1.07 a litre, I don't want to be doing that!) and with 2 small kids to pack up into the car aswel it just seems easier to have one at home!
The £279.99 is £99.99 (reconditioned) on Bissell's website...it seems the pefect size for our house and although it doesn't have a rotating bushbar as suggested by Viper, it does have 2 seperate tanks and hopefully will be easy to store!
Thanks for all you replies though! xStarted PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

I will next week. Check back here. I recommend it and you can order online. I think it came the next day. You get one free bottle of solution with it as well.:footie:0 -
:sad:Just realised that I have a carpet cleaner (lurking at the back of the cupboard)
Betterwear - two rows of very stiff bristles with a foam roller between them. Dip into foam solution (anyone remember 1001?) apply to carpet - leave to dry and vacuum.
So I cannot justify buying a reconditioned Bissell.:sad::sad:0 -
I've got a Bissell Ready Dry, I bought it about a month ago and I thought it was fantastic. I only paid £120 ish for it new from Comet on offer, not sure if the offer is still on. I used it on two bedrooms, hall, stairs and two sofas, more than paid for itself imo.0

here it is - reserve it before you pick it up using the code provided on the page and it's £121.220 -
Another vote for Bissell, I got a reconditioned one from their website two and a half years ago. Treat stains for 10 minutes with 1001 from Poundland and it works wonders!0

I would 100 million % recommend the rug doctor as well!!!! my carpet looks new every time i use it! a vax i find is good for refeshing the crapet every now and again, but it doiesn't have the rotating brush like the rug doctor, so doesn't get right down into the carpet in the same way!! rug doctor is dead easy to use and if you buy a big bottle of th cleaner then it will last you a few hires of the rug doctor!0
