Anyone Recommend A Good Carpet Cleaner?

Evening All,

The carpets in my house are due a good clean so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good value for money carpet cleaner? I haven't a clue to what to look for in a cleaner so any advice would be great!

Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer some advice!

    Depends on your budget...

but I'd look for one with a rotating bushbar and variable height control. Also one with a proper dual clean/dirty water tanks. Some also do hard floors using a polishing solution.

    Thanks Viper,

Not saying moneys no object but I'm willing to pay for something that's good quality and built to last.

If I was to pick a brand, then it would be Bissell. Various cleaners for requirements/prices but can get a "decent" one for around £100-£130 ish.

Vax would be my next choice, a little cheaper around £70 ish

Note though that the "better" cleaning solutions with the likes of Scotchguard (recommended) can be about £10 each and depending on room size, I'd say they last about 2 3 bed-room houses.

however - much better than getting someone in and the cleaners these days leave the carpets walk dry and touch dry in about 12 hours.

It's personal choice though really- but sure impartial advice goes a long way.

but I'd always look for one with a rotating bushbar - but will cost a little more but well worth it.

    Thanks again Viper,

That's a bit cheaper than I thought it was going to be so I'll be able to afford a bottle of Scotchguard!

Yuo'll also need to set some money aside for that stiff drink after you see the colour of the dirty water that comes out of the carpet!

Yeah it'd be used all the time, I don't like buying stuff and not using it! Homebase is about 30mins drive away so don't want to be doing that just to hire a cleaner and the nearest Sainsburys is about 2hrs away!

Thanks for that! I'm dreading seeing it but I've got a black/grey/light grey rug so I can blame the fluff off that for the water being, em, slightly dark! :p

  • http://www.bisselldirect.co.uk/product/1131 £50 off ;)

or take a look at their reconditioned ones, come with 1 yr guarantee and not bad prices.
Wouldnt touch a vax one at all.

I hire the rug doctor everytime from B&Q. Its the best thing ever and i will never use another machine. I *will* own one one-day, but at £400 a bit out of my league at the mo LOL

I'm not sure whether to thank you for that link or not
  • Johnson's the cleaners also hire Rug Doctors if you have one closer than your Sainsbury's or Homebase.
