Where to go in December

Hi,

Can anyone recommend places to go in December that will be hot and not rainy season? I have considered egypt, but wont be hot enough, I've been Gambia, so not keen on going again, Kenya I have a deposit on and was going to go but as each day goes by I think I made the wrong decision, then we have the Maldives which I would love to go to, but now its quite costly as there is only 4 months to go, although I did see a good price for Biyadoo Island Resort, but its not a very family friendly island like say Bandos (which is out of my budget)

So I am slightly stuck for ideas now

Thanks in advance.

Have you thought about UAE? As long as it's not over Christmas there can be cheap(ish) deals to be had. (not sure on your budget)

You don't mention your budget and you haven't mentioned America but I've been to California before in December and it was too hot for me but then I am a redhead but what about Mexico or South America?

Can I be nosey and ask why you don't think Kenya is the right decision? Do you have some particular worries that perhaps other MSErs might be able to help you with?

    hi,

The holiday will be over xmas leaving on 25th back on 2nd (or something) my budget is 2.8k for 2 adults, 1 child and an infant, now this was totally do-able in March for most places (when I booked my kenya hols) but not looking too good now, even for Spain..lol

My only reservation about Kenya is the airline, I have heard lots of stories about their "famous" delays and I really cant afford to get my son back to school late, those I have asked on TA have said they are fine, but more often than not I hear only bad things.

I just got back from Dubai and Abu last month, Dubai I didnt really like, but I did like Abu dhabi, but not keen on going back there just yet, wouldn't mind Qatar, but not a very christmassy place like dubai can be (if its not cancelled)

    Will look into Goa :-)

    Thanks Folks

OK, well without wishing to pry what is the worst that can happen if your son is a day or two late back to school? A fifty quid fine? (please don't answer that if there are personal reasons that don't need to be gone into).

Re: bad stories - I do think that people are more likely to bother posting a bad experience rather than a good one - which airline can absolutely avoid any delays/probs? None.

You obviously chose Kenya for a reason - it must have appealed to you, and tbh, unless there is some huge private difficult reason why your son could not be a day or two late back to school then I think you would be daft to change your plans for somewhere closer to home at an increased price (and that's not taking into account any loss of deposit you may incur).

Seriously, no airline can give you a cast iron guarantee, it would be a shame to cancel what potentially could be a fabulous holiday, I apologise in advance if there are other reasons contributing to your decision that you do not wish to make public.
  • Hun, I've only just posted this on the main travel thread:

Just saw your post so thought I'd recommend a place called Asha Cottage in Diani Beach, Kenya:

    http://www.ashacottages.com/

Came back from it recently and we're probably going for Xmas 2010...

It's amazing. We paid €60 per night (B&B) and it was incredible. It's family-run and the owners have got a little boy of their own.

It's basically a luxury hotel in paradise AND family-friendly. :T Strongly recommend it. I've put all the info on my post so have a read when you get a sec. Mx

Kenya is served by any number of airlines. Their national carrier is actually one of Africa's better airlines, but if you don't fancy them then travel on BA or Emirates.
