OK, well without wishing to pry what is the worst that can happen if your son is a day or two late back to school? A fifty quid fine? (please don't answer that if there are personal reasons that don't need to be gone into).
Re: bad stories - I do think that people are more likely to bother posting a bad experience rather than a good one - which airline can absolutely avoid any delays/probs? None.
You obviously chose Kenya for a reason - it must have appealed to you, and tbh, unless there is some huge private difficult reason why your son could not be a day or two late back to school then I think you would be daft to change your plans for somewhere closer to home at an increased price (and that's not taking into account any loss of deposit you may incur).
Seriously, no airline can give you a cast iron guarantee, it would be a shame to cancel what potentially could be a fabulous holiday, I apologise in advance if there are other reasons contributing to your decision that you do not wish to make public.
I know what you are saying makes total sense, and true there are no airlines with 100% guarantee of getting you there on time, but theres less chance of it with say BA? I dunno, I think I will just go and hope/pray for the best, I think I got a good deal with it and wont get anything as good for the price I paid now. I knew you would make me see sense..lol
Ok, off to Kenya it is, now to see if I can get the doctor at my surgery to put mine and the kids Malarone on 1 prescription and not each...Not very moneysaving of him

Just saw your post so thought I'd recommend a place called Asha Cottage in Diani Beach, Kenya:
http://www.ashacottages.com/
Came back from it recently and we're probably going for Xmas 2010...
It's amazing. We paid €60 per night (B&B) and it was incredible. It's family-run and the owners have got a little boy of their own.
It's basically a luxury hotel in paradise AND family-friendly. :T Strongly recommend it. I've put all the info on my post so have a read when you get a sec. Mx
Ooooh, thats nice0 -

Well we travelled with Emirates for the first time last Christmas and I believe that they are considered to be one of the best airlines in the world. Flights were fabulous, but due to a delay we missed our connecting flight in Dubai, so this sort of thing can happen with any airline.
(As it was, instead of accepting their first offered arrangements, I managed to convince them to let us fly on the same flight only 24 hours later, hence we had a stopover in Dubai courtesy of Emirates. What a hardship that was, not!!! :rotfl:)
You chose Kenya for a reason and I think you should go and enjoy it instead of worrying about (and losing money for) something which may or may not happen.0 -
Very... Asha's total bliss, esp if you have kids. Couldn't speak more highly of it.
Incapup is right though, Kenya is a safe bet. It never disappoints.

I've heard/read that is can also be in the mid 20's and usually cool/chilly at night, not UK chilly but just find the temp in Egypt a bit hit and miss (by my standards) that time of the year
I went to Fueteventura (sp?) last year Dec, and that was supposed to be in the mid to high 20's, we ended up with rain and having to wear full on quilted jacket/coats for the whole week as it was quite cold :eek:0 -
I would love to go to kenya - and you could get a delayed plane anywhere. I think that would be fantastic.0

Have you thought about Asia? Thailand is blazing hot at Christmas time. The main places for people to go are Phuket, Pattaya or Hua Hin. Blazing and the hotels do a lovely Christmas but New Year is more beautiful. Great feasts and they set off fireworks and lanterns on NYE.
Been to all three many times (I live in Hong Kong)and always had a fab time.
Sheraton in Phuket. Hilton in Hua-Hin and Dusit in Pattaya. Phuket and Hua-Hin are favourites though.0 -

Delayed planes I dont have a problem with as such if its a few hours, but KA are quite famous for their 9-12 hour jobs, anyhoo, I will be going and just have to hope for the best, and try to not think too much of the consequences in we are delayed (for long)

I didnt think Thailand was good at that time due to tsunamis, hurricanes etc.. Or am I getting it mixed up with somewhere else
