I didnt think Thailand was good at that time due to tsunamis, hurricanes etc.. Or am I getting it mixed up with somewhere else

    Tsunami season??

You are getting it mixed with somewhere else! Thailand is generally good then, although the West Coast is typically better weather wise than the East Coast (Koh Samui).

I agree with chinahands recommendation but would avoid Pattaya, Phuket and Hua Hin like the plague. Krabi, and the islands off Phan Nga would be a great destination.

However, I am thinking you have missed the boat on flights, and would struggle to get within budget.

If I had your budget, i'd head for a lovely cheapo holiday to Portugal, and save the rest for a SE Asian adventure at Easter!

Hoxtonbabe - I am puzzled why you would suggest that Phuket and Hua Hin are to be avoided like the plague.

I have been to the places you mentioned several times - but for Christmas and New Year Phuket or Hua Hin are exceptionally family friendly. I can understand not wanting to visit Pattaya(hookers and all) but different strokes for different folks. Krabi is the pits for a couple with a youngster and unless you take a boat to raleigh there is no sandy beach. Islands off Phang Nga also need a boat trip.

Hua Hin has a fabulous two mile beach minimum right in front of the Hilton and the Sofitel with the town directly behind - very family friendly. Phuket at the Sheraton or Dusit is also well equipped for young children.
