Hi Cattkitt
Your probably right - who needs to see facial blemishes anyway! If you are struggling with you reading vision you could probably get some of those over the counter ready readers - they will help0 -
Hi,
I'm seriously thinking about having a laser eye treatment with Optimax and it seems that there are many ways of getting the best deal from this. So far, I look around and found the following methods:
1) Optimax website stating half price, reducing from £4,790 to £2,395, which is only available for bilateral IntraLase Wavefront LASIK treatment. I suspect this is more for the higher end treatments.
2) £500 off treaments found by doing a search in ebay
3) Tesco Clubdeal
The forum and the article in Moneysavingexpert forum seems to be outdated now so any help with the latest update will be helpful.
My questions are:
- How do I know the exact price of the treatment I should be getting? If I go for a consultation now, will I get refused for going into any of the deals above?
- I suspect method (1) and (2) cannot be taken together. How about method (3) with method (1) for example?
- Is there any cheaper deals out there now?
Thanks,
amsjrt0 -

Its now been 3 months since my laser eye surgery.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The whole experience has been fantastic, the best thing I've ever done and the best money I have ever spent.
I worried for years about 'getting it done' because 'its my eyes' and you only get one pair.
I wish I'd done it years ago and have had the benefits of a contact lens and glasses free life when i was a little younger.
I opted for lasik, wavefront, intralase surgery - it cost me £2500. I wasn't lucky enough to get hold of any vouchers so thats why I want to pass on my vouchers that i have received since having mine done.
I have vouchers that give you £150 off surgery if you book surgery by the 13th september 2010 and have it done by the 27th september 2010. You have to take these along with you.
If you want some vouchers, please contact me through pm and Ill post them out first class the same day.
If you want a chat about my experiences too - please contact me.0 -

I've finally had enough of contact lenses so am taking the leap to laser surgery. I had a consultation about 18 months ago and was quoted around £1500 per eye, have the prices moved at all over this period? Is there much difference between the different companies offering this surgery?0

I had mine done by a top Moorfields eye hospital surgeon for just a touch more than that, about 3-4 months ago. He fixes eye surgeries that go wrong, and does transplants too. Good investment, that few extra hundred.0

Be aware that it is not all it is cracked up to be. I have so far had 3 ops and am due to get another one soon. I did a lot of research and there didn't appear to be much between the big names.
Despite my bad experiences I would still encourage people to get the surgery if it is what they really want but just to be aware that the happy ever afters don't happen for everyone and the more complex/extreme your original prescription the more likely it is that you will have problems.
I think it was optimax who had a forum with people's diary experiences that I found really helpful before I had the surgery for the first time but the forum seems to have been pulled in its original format,If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Bear in mind that following the surgery, your eyes will continue growing and changing and due to the change in shape of the front of the eyes, you may not be able to wear contact lenses afterwards. This is significant as lots of people only benefit from a reduced prescription, so the surgery might not be the end to glasses that you hoped!
Also regardless of whether they have had surgery or not, nearly everyone will rely on reading glasses somewhere after their forties any way.
These days the technology of contact lenses has advanced so much, I wear mine comfortably and easily for a whole week, day and night (then throw away) I don't even think about laser surgery any more.
If you know all this stuff already, forgive me for jumping your thread..I just wanted to make you aware of what I knew.0
