I've got tinnitus at the moment,(and reduced hearing) have an appointment at ENT clinic, in a couple of weeks. Not asking for advice just asking whats the normal 'treatment' please? I think its a hearing aid to cancel it out? Thanks0

My GP told me the waiting list for a hearing aid is 18 months, so maybe contact yours tomorrow? (Hope it helps)...0

I think I might be affected by this too, Doc confirmed I have vertigo and take stemetil tabs to help. Lately I've had an increase in the noises in my ears, reduced hearing, more headaches and am less able to concentrate. It would be good if one could claim some sort of benefit. I'd spend it all on drink and at least have an enjoyable reason why I feel dizzy and hungover half the time. :rotfl:
That was a joke btw.
I sypathise with all of you who have this to one degree or another, 'tis not fun.Herman - MP for all!0 -

The good old chinese water torture ! Fun isn't it -NOT. Ask your GP to refer you to NHS audiology, they'll test your hearing and provide you with the best aids for your hearing loss. Be warned, when you get them everything will sound weird and very loud. Persevere and be patient.
The waiting list differs in length from area to area, my local list has a wait of 4 weeks......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Hi Ive had Menieres about 15 years in both ears. It has gradually got worse having to be retired on medical grounds .I claimed DLA for 18 months then 12 months ago it was up for renewal and was dissallowed. I am going to appeal, waiting for a date it is now 12 months since I had DLA. I suffer dizzeness and balance problems every day having to use a stick , I have many falls. I suffer vomitting at least weekly and can not even turn left to right quickly to cross a road on my own. All my consultants, doctors and the \\\atmos doctor have supported me but the DWP seem to disagree. This can be ahorrible disabling condition and people do not always understandx sorry to rant but i get so frustrated x Go to ENT specilist they have given me aids to help tinitus and hearing aids x0 -
:Dthats because you know there are ppl worse off some ppl will try and claim for such minor ailments its unbelivable i had a stroke and never thought to claim im getting on with itcarlislelass wrote: »I wasn`t dismissing anyone, just meant I had never thought of claiming DLA0

if everyone claimed for such ailments and got the money dont u think this country would be in an even worse state than we are in now there are amputees out there that dont claim ect ppl in real pain and real disabilities i have no problem with claiming I could deffo claim but wont and i aint richcarlislelass wrote: »I was diagnosed with Menieres a couple of years ago but have never thought of claiming DLA and just get on with it.0

It's worth remembering that there are very few conditions / disabilities for which DLA is automatically granted, and that includes some amputees.
No, to claim it you have to make a case for how YOU are affected.
If you regularly can't get out of bed without assistance / falling over / vomiting then a DLA claim would seem to be entirely reasonable. If you have tinnitus, mild nausea / dizziness and are losing your hearing, but it doesn't stop you getting on with 'normal' life, then you'll struggle to demonstrate on a DLA application that you need extra help.
There is, however, a fine line between getting on with 'normal' life and coping, but finding it a real struggle to do so. That's why the occasional reminder that DLA is worth considering is worthwhile, IMO.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
