Do you donate to animal charities regularly?

Hi
Thought I'd start a new thread after reading the PDSA one. Now we all know that animal charities rely on donations but I will not give to the rspca nor guide dogs for the blind. They're both rolling in loads of dosh anyway.
I'm just wondering about the small local animal charities/rescues that must be desperately short of cash right now as tonnes of dogs are being given in as a result of this recession.
I'm thinking of making a donation once a month, maybe £5 I know it's not a lot but if we all gave they'd soon be rich & wealthy just like the guide dogs and rspca.
Do any of you donate and how much do you give?

I don't make a regular donation ie a set amount a month but I often (every six weeks or so) donate to independant cat rescues - normally £15-20 and often in response to an appeal or special case that they have in.
Sadly the neglect and cruelty of animals is shockingly rife and the people working in rescues are fighting a losing battle, especially in this financial climate they are struggling for funds more than ever so would urge people to donate whatever they can afford - it all adds up.0 -
What's wrong with the guide dogs for the blind charity? I know why some people don't like to give to the RSPCA, but can't think of anything wrong with guide dogs for the blind? (well, except that they use choke chains).
I give to the RSPCA sometimes, as my dog came from there. And the Blue Cross. Not regularly though, don't really have the spare money.0 -
When I'm working I give regular donations to local animal charities, when I'm not working and am short of cash I try to volunteer my time if I can.
Doing it that way means that I can see exactly what the charity are doing with their funds. I find it makes me much keener to donate as much as I can.
One thing though, I try not to give a cash donation "over the counter" but do it online instead, that way the charity can get gift aid benefit as well as the actual donation. That can lead to embarrasment at treatment time as when I say I'm making a donation online I sometimes get looked as as if to say "Yeah, right"My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

I don't give money regularly, but I do donate the odd sack of dog food to my local rescue, and occasionally help out with transport runs etc (not so much recently - I need to get back on the ball with it!)
I am also a 'member' of the rescue I got my dog from, and this costs a tenner a year, for which I get a newsletter, invites to events etc.0 -
My only regular donation is about £12 a month to the Dogs Trust. Other than that, I put my spare change in the collection tins for local animal sanctuaries, and always buy an extra tin of dog and cat food at the supermarket to drop into the food collection bins. When I had time, I was a volunteer dog walker with the local animals' refuge.
I have mixed feelings about donating to the RSPCA and PDSA, so I tend to do it less for those two.Egg Loan - [strike]£4921.84[/strike] £0!! :j Barclaycard - £3866.47 Legal + Trade - [strike]£2700.96[/strike] £0!! :j Triton - [strike]£1730.89[/strike] £0!! :j Next - [STRIKE]£776.15[/STRIKE] £126.88 Littlewoods - [strike]£217.16[/strike] £0!! :j Housemate - [strike]£1300[/strike] £0!! :j Capital One - [STRIKE]£1652.51[/STRIKE] £1,081.58 Vanquis - [strike]£2337.75[/strike] £375.58

I donate £5 a month to my local cats protection and add some extra tins and dry food to my zooplus order if I can afford it.
I can't rate my local CPL highly enough not only for the wonderful cats that found their way to my house but for all the support they gave us when our old man was ill, which was a lot. I was usually on the phone to them once a month with an update on his condition (he had been waiting over 18 months on a home and when he came to us he got sick 5 days later, diagnosed with CRF and sadly died almost a year to the day we got him). The also helped with our vets bills as he got sick too quickly for the insurance to cover him. When I called to say he had passed the CPL lady cried with me and even called a few days later to see how I was doing.0 -

I forgot to mention in my first post...
I also order from VetUK (frontline, drontal etc) but go through an affiliate link so the rescue gets 5% of my order total donated to them. Have a look on your local Cats Protection / independant rescue's website to see if they have a link. You just click on the link and it takes you to the regular VetUK site and then you order as normal. I do the same with Zooplus by clicking through the link on a cat rescue forum and they get 5% from Zooplus. Both sites are really good value with free postage over a certain spend so I would normally order with them anyway.0
