When this switch over happens what do people who cannot get a freeview reception in their house do?
My mum cannot get one no matter what aerial we use. I have tried amplified ones but all she gets on the TV screen is "no signal" on a blue background.0 -

Has your area been switched yet? Once the analogue signal is switched off, the digital one will be boosted. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I just googled and in my area it says the switch over will be in 2012 in our area so what can I do in the meantime? Does it mean my mum needs and outside aerial to pick up freeview because indoor ones are rubbish?0

It says that my mum should be able to pick up all channels?

Maybe a silly question, but have you tried pointing the aerial in a different direction? The digital transmitters are in different positions to the analogue ones. Also, you are more likely to need an external aerial with digital in our experience.
Just one other thought - how about freesat? What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

I've not looked into Freesat yet, i'll research later. I have tried the aerial in every way possible. I've just got back from shopping having bought a booster, if that does not work then i'll have to get an outdoor one.0 -
They do say outdoor ariels are better than the indoor ones, get an installer to fit an ariel and he should point the ariel in the right diection, freesat uses a dish instead of an ariel0

It is also possible that she is currently pointing at a small repeater transmitter which is analogue only as in the case of my local one.
Can she check with neighbours to see what they get, look at the roof to see where other people are pointing outdoor aerials? I can get no freeview at all with an indoor aerial but can with an outdoor one - pointing at a different transmitter obviously.0
