Mix a bit of bicarb of soda with water to form a paste. Scrub it on, and then spray with a bit of vinegar to get a foam and that generally cleans off just about any kind of soap scum/bathroom dirt you can find.

Bicarb and vinegar are now my staple cleaning products.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • Thanks for all the comments.

Where can you get a good supply of bicarb from. I have only seen small amounts in supermarkets for cooking. Can you also tellme which vinegar. I read references to white vinegar but I have seen both malted and distilled white vinagar. Which do I need please and what is the best place to get it from.

How old is the bath? In our last house when we started struggling to get ours clean it was because the enamel was damaged due to its age so we had the bath tub re-enameled.

You can get boxes for cleaning from Wilkinsons, also £1 shop (at least mine do) sell Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. And I just use white vinegar :)

I agree. We have a bath that needs re-enamelling because of my OH once love of bath bombs with sand in from a well known Chain of Soap Shops. He has promised to fix the bath... I wait.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

The bath is 65 years old. What did re-enameling cost?
  • HI!

I have just moved home and we are trying to get our bath clean again!

We moved into the house and the stains in the bath has got worse over time.

The landlord has told us to go back with Hydrogen peroxide... i tried this but go nowhere!

I am going to be trying the bicarbonate of soda later today but i dont hold out much hope.

They still have our deposit. It wasnt in a great state when we first went in but the landlorad has got us in a corner to be honest.

Can anyone offer any help on how to get it back to white!

It just looks like tea-bag type streaks running down the side of the bath whilst the base of the bath is completely stained. :(

I got my bath clean in the end by using a plastic spatula and gently scraping. It took me a long time and a lot of elbow grease but eventually it worked.

Have you tried lemon juice or vinegar?
