Farmfoods - chicken breasts approx 6 in pack for £4.50 at the moment 3 bags for £10 my last three bags equalled 16 chciken breast some where so big that me and my youngest son will share. 8 frozen pork shops for £4.50 I have had thicker but they are good.

Also farmfoods garden peas - these are great and I am definatly converted from birds eye.

And finally the quilted toilet paper that they sell also in farmfoods - I think the brand is Nicky 9 rolls for £2 I am incredibly impressed really thick and soft and their kitchen paper is quite good as well.

I have only just started shopping in farmfoods over the last 3/4 weeks and was really persuaded by DH to try, always only shopped at sainsburys/tesco before, but I am impressed - I will continue stocking my freezer from there in future.

Value loo rolls - are a waste of money. I don't mind that they are a bit on the rough side, but there isn't that much on a roll and you are forever changing them. We reckon that they actually costs us more than the next one up (Morrisons softer is good value)

One that gets mixed reviews but cheap shampoos and conditioners are really bad for my hair. I have ended up using the shampoos for cleaning (though that could be quite msaving)

Cheap washing up liquid is a waste of money

We only buy organic milk, if we go back to ordinary milk we notice the difference as there is little flavour

We only buy Free range organic chicken, anything else is tasteless.

Value bread is only good for the ducks. (Or possibly Bread and butter pudding though I haven't tried it yet)

Wafer thin ham is really awful, doesn't taste of anything and is rather slimy!!

I used to say that until I started trying out cheaper brands, try the W5 washing up liquid from Lidl; I swear the orange antibacterial one smells like Jaffa Cakes to me, costs less than half of the leading brands. :)

I agree, if only more people bought organic free range chicken the prices will come down, which is what stops most people now, they would find properly reared Chickens can improve the quality of their meals.

I cannot recommend Asda's value undercoat and gloss white paints, the fumes hang around ridiculously long and it doesn't hold its colour that well, wish I'd stayed with a premium brand now.

    I'm another Farmfoods fan.

Like no1.swimmum I buy their chicken breasts, and also the bags of cooked chicken breasts for £3 a bag. You get 6-8 breasts, and they are ideal to add to sauces for chicken pasta bake, curries, etc. Their mild cheddar is OK from the chilled cabinet, and they sell 4 pints of milk for £1, like Sainsburys do with their 1% milk.

Other good prices from Farmfoods is their frozen waffles, potato fritters (kids love 'em as a treat) and croquet potatoes, all £1 a bag. Their frozen veg is all good, and equal in quality to any of the other supermarkets. They also do large bags of french fries for £1, which mine love, and are just like the frites we used to have in Belgium. Another vote for the 'Nicky' brand of toilet tissue from there. It's thick, and is even impregnated with a scented moisturiser, like the expensive Andrex. It's soft too, and for it to be a good alternative to either Andrex or Velvet in our house, it must be OK. They do sell 9 roll packs of Kleenex Velvet tissue in Superdrug for £2.99 regularly.

I've learnt the hard way that value tomato sauce in most supermarkets is very acidic, and too vinegary for our liking.

Value corn flakes, coco pops and rice krispies from Tesco were absolutely awful. The kids tried them, and spat them out. I couldn't even get the birds to eat them! Total waste of money. I couldn't even use them for making cakes.

Value porridge is fine for baking, but makes a very gruelly like porridge, so I'd recommend looking out for the better quality stuff when on offer.

Sainsburys value sweet n sour didn't go down well with the family. A bit too sour (vinegar), and the sweet was too artificial. They begged me not to buy it again, picked out the chicken I'd added it to, and ate the plain bits of rice untouched by the sauce.

My boys absolutely love the Aldi orange squash, and say it's nicer than Robinsons.

If you like vegetarian food, then Sainsburys own frankfuter style frozen sausages are nice. Linda McCartney frozen lasagne, and southern style burgers are lovely, but look out for them on offer.

Farmfoods usually have your favourite branded frozen foods, and tinned foods at knock down prices, but do try their own brand stuff, as it's good too.

  • This time last year I got too know the smart price brand pretty well and most are very hit or a miss.

Smart price frozen mince is a big no no- I couldn't even eat it it smelled that bad, my OH did and wished he hadn't. Same for the SP tuna although its been said it's bad enough for a second warning- even my cats refuse it. We didn't like the value bread or beans/spagetti/macaroni (but we don't even get tinned mac any more as I make it) and pot noodle type snack.

The cheap cat food is also a miss, the meat and the biscuits. As is the SP litter as it can be a nightmare to clean from the bottom of the tray and doesn't hold in smells at all.

Things we did like and still get even though we can afford better are SP Jaffa cakes, pasta, all kinds even sheets for lasagne, cold meats and cheese slices (not the plastic cheese the real cheese) frozen chicken breasts, kitchen rolls and loo rolls.
