If dogs eat faeces it's usually because there's something missing from their own diet - some nutrient or other. May be worth having a word with a vet about it...from experience they usually recommend Hills Science Diet, or whatever it's called which is hideously expensive.

Maybe try (gradually) changing the diet, making sure you have all bases covered nutrient wise and see if this helps?

I used to feed Hills but it is really really expensive. I feed Royal Canin at the moment but do a little raw feeding to top it up. Royal Canin is also quite expensive and would like to know where peopple buy this from?

WolfSong i've done loads of reading up on the poo eating thing, and i have heard this theory about something missing from their diet. I don't think it's that though, i do think it's just tasty, she doesn't eat her own poo, just the kittys (and only my kitty, not the other cats lol).
I'm taking her to a vet today so i will ask him about the poo eating thing.

She eats cat sick aswell, which is essentially just soggy cat biscuits, obviously not very often but i have witnessed it :o

oh..when I was a kid, my younger brother ate too much chocolate over christmans, and was very, very sick... in the middle of a power cut - as I was trying to scrape it up and deposit it into a bowl, the blooming dog was eating it... .. trying to catch vomit from a small child and deter a dog from eating it at the same time is no mean feat!

Can anyone help with getting cheaper pet food.
Currently I have a Whippet, Bullmastiff and 2 cats, food bills for the pets alone are quite high in our house.
I know that ordering online from Berrywoods is cheaper than the high street and supermarket but there is a minimum spend.
Does anyone know of a similar company that is maybe a bit better on price?
    Thank you :D
Can you post the URL for Berrywoods please...
I have googled Berrywoods and nothing to do with pets/petfoods
    comes up...thanks :)

I buy the Wagg 17kg worker food for my Springer Spaniel. It lasts 2 months ish, if not longer and i don't ration it by anyone's standards! costs £10 and you can get it in Tesco, or i buy mine from the local garden centre, same price.

I give the dog very occasionally our leftovers provided they're suitable, she likes pork chops bones lol, she'd also love the chicken carcass but i give that to the cat as dog would swallow it whole and choke herself :D Leftover casserole etc, she's very healthy, i let her have most things but maximum a few times a week.

My ex said he grew up on a farm and they gave their dogs the leftovers on their plates every night no matter what food it was lol

Also in the garden centre is Go cat Complete 15kg which is bit more expensive at (i think) £12. I can't remember exactly as it's been so long since i've needed to buy anymore!! That was for 2 cats but one has been put to sleep since then, it's lasted about 4 or 5 months though and i took them off wet food completely so that's all they have.

So i calculate that it costs me around £7 per month to feed my pets.

which garden center sells the go cat please?

Mine is called "No Frills" - it's Focus store though so not sure if it'd be in the bigger shops.
Apparently it's gone up to £15 since i last bought it but i've not seen it for myself!
  • Don't just feed cats crap dry food - it's not good for them at all. It would actually be better to feed them on crap wet food, to be honest.

My advice is to look out for special deals at online pet stores on reasonable quality food. Lots of these places offer free delivery if you spend over a certain amount. I feed my single cat on very high quality food - 80g of Applaws dry & one pouch of Hilife per day - for £5 a week, which I managed by seeking out special offers. I'm sure you could go cheaper if you looked for deals on mid-range products.

I changed my dogs from Royal Canin giant breed about 2 years ago to Autaky (£17 ish a bag locally) and they are thriving on it.
