Cheap pet food

Can anyone help with getting cheaper pet food.
Currently I have a Whippet, Bullmastiff and 2 cats, food bills for the pets alone are quite high in our house.
I know that ordering online from Berrywoods is cheaper than the high street and supermarket but there is a minimum spend.
Does anyone know of a similar company that is maybe a bit better on price?

What sort of food are you looking for? A particular brand? kibble or tins? Wagg is cheap, some CSJ varieties of dog food are not too bad, and you can order direct from both.. working dog food is VAT free, so a potential saving there too...

a lot of brands of "cheap" dog food can be a false economy, as you end up having to feed more to compensate for the lack of quality...for your dogs (not sure about the cats) you could look into a RAW diet (raw meat and veggies)...works out a lot cheaper than kibble, etc and is very good for the dogs...sure if you google it there will be websites, etc,

I buy the Wagg 17kg worker food for my Springer Spaniel. It lasts 2 months ish, if not longer and i don't ration it by anyone's standards! costs £10 and you can get it in Tesco, or i buy mine from the local garden centre, same price.

I give the dog very occasionally our leftovers provided they're suitable, she likes pork chops bones lol, she'd also love the chicken carcass but i give that to the cat as dog would swallow it whole and choke herself Leftover casserole etc, she's very healthy, i let her have most things but maximum a few times a week.

My ex said he grew up on a farm and they gave their dogs the leftovers on their plates every night no matter what food it was lol

Also in the garden centre is Go cat Complete 15kg which is bit more expensive at (i think) £12. I can't remember exactly as it's been so long since i've needed to buy anymore!! That was for 2 cats but one has been put to sleep since then, it's lasted about 4 or 5 months though and i took them off wet food completely so that's all they have.

So i calculate that it costs me around £7 per month to feed my pets.

I feed Wagg worker too - my dog only gets through three bags a year, so she is cheap - I also give (healthy and safe) leftovers (spuds, veg, meat scraps - not cooked bones though), and the odd tin of cheapo sardines - my dog is in nice condition and has a lovely shiny coat!

She is also oddly obsessed with fruit! (no raisins and grapes though!)

cottage cheese can also be a nice little extra...I always think it's important to mix-up what animals are fed, as it must be boring for them to get the same day after day...ours get a variety...sometimes cottage cheese, sometimes raw veggies, sometimes (safe) leftovers...occasionally they'll get a marrow bone if we can scrounge some from a butcher, etc.

FC, why not cooked bones? Is that not good for them? It's rare i eat meat with bones in at all tbh, but i have twice given her pork bones. I gave her some cooked chicken meat once (no bones) and she had the runs it was obviously too rich for her even a little bit so she doesn't get that anymore :rotfl:

cooked bones are far more brittle than raw bones, and more likely to splinter... if this happens it can cause lacerations and perforations in the digestive tract, which could be very serious or fatal....

There is probably still some risk from raw bones, but far less than with cooked bones, as they are far less brittle, and dogs teeth have evolved to crush and grind on raw bones... so all the advice is to not let dogs have cooked bones!

Oh i should have mentioned, the Go Cat i get for the cats, well it also benefits the dog as she has an obsession with sniffing out my cats poo on the field nearby and eating it _pale_

So essentially we're very tidy, dog cleans up after cat, i clean up after dog. :rotfl:

Seriously though it's disgusting and i try to discourage it but it's like caviar to her

hi I buy tesco dog food most of the time. I buy a bag of their cheapest dry food and mix it with the meat. That way you cut down on the expensive tinned food but are still giving them a mixed diet. Mine wont eat dry food on its own.
I also feed my dog scraps ie, veg, potatoes, meat. and cereal . He is 12 and still running around like a puppy. People think he is still a pup.
