  • CSJ is a decent food, and well priced, but you should never change a dog's food suddenly, and she needs to have a settled tummy whilst she is tring to learn housetraining... so I would start her on the food she is used to, let her settle in first, then if you want to change, do so in a little while, and gradually, mixing in the new food with what she is on over time, till she is on the new food alone.

Sure, some people will change overnight, and find it caused no problems, but I would say it is not a good idea to chop and change her diet whilst everything else changes, let her settle in and eat what she is used to.

If you change her diet when she arrives and then she develops diarrhoea or any other upset tum symptoms, it will be hard to know whether that is a result of changing diet or any other issues, so I would get used to her, her toilet habits etc whilst she is on Beta, then see how other things suit her when you know what is 'normal' for pup.
  • The CSJ food website looks good.
I notice they do Pawpoints? Leekat21 do you want to refer me in order to get some money off your next order?

Hi FC ,I thought it would be better to maintain the same diet for a while. Thank you for your advice. We spent the weekend puppy proofing everything indoor and out. We also brought the lactol that owner is mixing with the beta, a bed and a little kong toy.
S everything is pretty much in place , now we have a name I can call the vets on tuesday and get her registered and the jabs/healthcheck booked in for the following week.

Its so nice to see some one taking the time and care to think these things through before puppy arrives at his/her new home. A big pat on the back to you and your family. Your puppy is a very lucky litle girl to be coming to a loving family. I wish there were more people like yourself about.
One thing I will add to the many replies is, puppy wont know that the toy on the floor is a special one, or that a dolly isnt puppys. Puppy thinks all things on the floor are there for their enjoyment, and of course to be chewed. Make sure your kids understand that anything left on the floor is asking for trouble. Lol my daugther left her very expensive sandals on the floor, our pup chewed them. She never left anything about again. So explain to young children that if anything is left on the floor and puppy chews it, then its their fault not pups. With luck they will soon learn to clear things away. Making it even easier for mum in the process. I wish you all the luck in the world with your new family member, have the camera ready and post us a picture, I bet everyone is waiting to see her.

    Hi

Thanks for the thought and offer, I buy from a local stockist who is only 10 mins from my house so don't think it would apply.

I'm just happy to recommend them as their service and help to me was first class. I got several free samples of their food and treats after just one email giving details of my new puppy.

I also recently asked them to send some samples to my parents house as I was going there on holiday and didn't want to take a 15kg bag with me. They happily sent 12 sample packs to the nominated address and charged me a very small amount. It arrived at my parents before I did and it was a very last minute request. I've been very impressed with them.

Well all the kids bar the little one are back at school today. The vets is booked for wednesday for healthcheck ,jabs , flea treatment and worming.
There is one more thing I could do with some advice on, I have read a few other posts on here recently saying bthat pups were a bit ill after traveling for a long time. We have a 2 hr journey home with Izzy on sunday and I was hoping for some advice on the best way to help her cope.

Take plenty of towels and wet wipes. Make sure that she doesn't have a meal too soon before travelling and that she gets a chance to pee and poo before you set off.

She would probably be happier on a lap for this first journey as well. She probably won't be ill, it is only a minority that are.

I drove 3 hours with my new puppy and he was fine apart from crying for half an hour and doing a poo...poor thing... Take a blanket from a breeder that smells of his mother for comfort, make regular stops to give him water and as someone said, bring wet wipes and towels as accidents are very likely.
