There is another thing I need help with if you all dont mind. We need to think of a name quickly as I need to get her registered at the vets. I upload a pic in a bit (I am waiting for the owner to send me a nice one.)

Probably 'Mrs/Mr surname's dog' or 'Puppy surname' would be ok, iirc my rat was registered at a vets before it had a name.

If you haven't opened your large sack of BETA, I would see if you can return it. It's a poor quality food. Burns, Orijen or CSJ are much better. I have an 18 month old Springer and he's been on CSJ since 9 weeks. I buy it in 15kg sacks and it's around £18. I get him lamb and rice because it's wheat and gluten free. I also give him CSJ Dem Bones (charcoal biscuits) as a treat. I swapped my dogs food straight away and he didn't suffer any ill effects. I'd back up what the others have said about puppy pads. I just used to put Monty outside every time after he ate, and every time after he woke up. With the command 'wee wee' and a clicking of fingers and a point of a finger going in a circle, he soon learned. He still does it. The circle is because dogs tend to circle before they wee or poo.

Get a collar and lead and use them straight away to get him/her used to it. I had a soft rolled leather timberwolf collar with matching lead and it was on from day one as well.

Another thing I would recommend is being fairly strict to begin with, no going back to him/her if she cries at night, just knock on the door and say no firmly.

Hi leekat i have decided to move onto another food asap , but I thought it would be best to keep her on the same food as she has had to begin with. The owner has been giving her this to wean mixed with lactol. So I brought the same so i wouldnt hurt pups tummy. She will still be having the mixed lactol/beta until i pick her up.

Is this the wrong thing to do?

  • What is CSJ?

    Ta
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)
  • If she is eating Beta now, I would feed her on Beta to start off with, everything else will be changing for her, she will feel a bit unsure and familiar food which she is used to will be best, and you should never change a dogs diet suddenly anyway, as it tends to upset their stomach, which will make toilet training hard for the pup and the owner, as well as potentially making her feel poorly.

I can't post links but if you google CSJ K9 dog food, you'll find them. I think they are based in Wales. You can email them and ask for some samples to be sent. They were very helpful when I contacted them. I changed Monty's food immediately after bringing him home from the breeder and didn't have any tummy or toilet problems with him, maybe we were just lucky?
