Red Hair

They're jealous, plain and simple - jealous!!!
My OH and best friend are/were red heads (gone grey now) and both suffered dreadful abuse when they were younger. I can't understand it at all, I would have loved to have red hair .......I did dye mine once but it didn't suit me.
Your daughter sounds stunning and you are obviously and understandably, a very proud mum!0 -
I am red haired and all three of my kids are red haired. I too hated it when i was at school but i would never ever dream of dyeing it. Every single time i go to the hairdressers i get at least 3 different people tell me they would love to have my colour hair which is nice. But on the flip side the comments, snide remarks and blatant abuse you get off complete strangers absolutely staggers me. I can take a joke like anyone else but when a 'joke' is said and actually meant its not nice. I read a case where one young man was actually stabbed in the back and the guy who did it said it was because he didn't like people with ginger hair! It beggars belief!
Incidentally in the USA red hair is looked at completely differently and is desirable.0 -
Jojo, that is terrible, your poor daughter!!!!!!!
You should tell her to hold her head up high and pity these bitter, jealous women (for that is what they are). Also, get some photos of famous redheads to show her what an asset it is. Every female I know would love to have hair like hers, I've even toyed with the idea of dyeing mine red!
She sounds absolutely beautiful and in time she will realise this. She should also come up with a witty but subtle retort for the next time, but deliver it in a nice-as-pie manner to confuse them! Maybe we could all put our heads together and think of something clever?
I have naturally blonde hair and, if I had a penny for every time someone told me that it couldn't POSSIBLY be that colour naturally, I'd be rich. What a catty thing to say.

oh that's really horrible
As a child my hair was a bright orange colour and I loved it! I used to love it when people looked at me but I never heard any bad comment to make me feel down about it. I am mixed race myself and now have light brown hair but I so want my red hair back! If im lucky in the summer my hair does go lighter but its just not the same. I'm even thinking dying it!

I'm shocked that you say it's mostly blonde women who have said it. I'm blonde and have had many catty comments by brunettes throughout my life  With all the blonde jokes you'd think they would know better!
Many a time I have had pupils at work say 'miss, tell them I don't have ginger hair, it's strawberry blonde!' Red hair, like any colour, can be beautiful. Stunning, even. How society finds it acceptable to openly mock people because of their hair colour baffles me. Why is it even an issue?!"I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderful."

I am sorry but if it would help her feel less obvious and avoid the bully's attention I would let her dye it until she can deal with the attention. It is very important for young people to fit in and they often only appreciate attributes once they are slightly older. Her hair colour will still be there for a few years. I know many red heads get blonde highlights to tone it down.0

I would love to be able to dye my hair the colour of brees in desperate housewifes, but as my hair is dark i just put a dark red over it, have used different shades for years. My son is very pale with blonde hair, sometime his hair can look red, depending what colour tee he is wearing, and we've had some nasty comments too, hes only 6. My friends daughter also 6, has the most amazing pale skin, green eyes and red curly hair, shes the prettiest thing like a doll, her mum said they get unkind comments from adults aswell as children.
Your daughter should complain about the interviewers comments, i could understand if it was pink or green but not red. I hope she never feels the need to dye it.0 -
Tell her NOT to dye it jet black. Im a natural redhead and once dyed my hair jet black and it looked awful - I looked like Morticia Adams!!!
Im unfortunate enough to be overweight with a facial hair problem as well as being a redhead, and my (blonde, slim, pretty and intelligent) friend said she couldnt understand why I got abuse shouted at me in the street.... I dont really get any trouble now if Im with OH (he's soft as muck but hes over 6 ft and built like a brick outhouse) I had really bright hair when I was younger, its now gone really dark but I still hate it. However, OP, your daughter sounds absolutely gorgeous, she just needs to ignore those stupid idiots.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I used to have red hair although not a striking red.As I have got older my it is more of a mucky red/blondey colour I used to hate all the comments when i was younger. But now i really wish I could have that color back people pay a fortune to have it dyed that colour. Please tell her she should hold her head up high and be proud. It is hard but just try to ignore the jealousy. In Perfect love and Perfect Trust.0

That's a shame
I agree with the not wanting her to dye it, apart from the fact that it's pretty, you don't want to ruin her hair.
I also agree that she should report the interviewer!Tell her NOT to dye it jet black. Im a natural redhead and once dyed my hair jet black and it looked awful - I looked like Morticia Adams!!!
I'm naturally quite dark and even I looked like death warmed up.0
