It must be the time because there was never any dodgy content or anything like that.
a lot of companies may see the likes of bebo and facebook as inappropriate and also checking personal email
you can ask for reports of which sites you have accessed and point out you havent been on anything since the clampdown which may go in your favour. last year our work done a similar clampdown and about 3 people did get the sack for it0 -

hotmail and the like are potential virus passers so companies don't like the risk they pose.
facevook and bebo are just time wasters.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

You can't just assume this, they should have pointed this out....if it was the content then someone could have been on your account...and if it was the time then they needed to have told you what level they are expecting you to stay under - esp as they had a crackdown last week.0 -
you could also have spyware on your PC that causes traffic. If a colleague has your user name and password details and then logs in as you then it will show up as your usage. This can also be true if you log in for a temp allowing them to do work - this is usually an illegal practice in most work places though.
End of they day you (a) need to get you hands on the unfiltered data, rather than the summary and (b) find out what software and methods they are using to detect this. (c) are the going by quantity downloaded, sites visited, or total time spent on-line (d) amount of time spent on line during working time? Are you allowed usage at lunch breaks etc.
Get the data via the data protection act if they do not want to hand it over. You need to do all of this before the non-disciplinary, disciplinary?disciplinary meeting but they also pointed out that it is not a disciplinary process
Zebradome, I for for the NHS, in IT. Mostly the request come from a manager that wants one member of staff out the door for any excuse, so we are asked to audit that person. Due to employment law, equal opportunity and victimisation we can not do this. However we are able to do spot check on that whole department as per dept heads request and gain stats for all the members. We have many months of data and would normally audit the previous 3 month period. The results will include the top10: downloaders, web browsing people, sites visited. Then there will be individual statistics for that person(s). Once offenders have been identified, then their whole history (time and site) is open for inspection0 -
I never went on after the clamp down, other than to check a few numbers for work, which i think i can prove if i need to, i was on for the work based intranet but surely that is allowed!
But in your OP you wrote, "and since then i have mainly stayed of, except google to check a few things, mainly work related". (my emphasis)
That suggests you were also on the internet after the prior week's "clamp down" and used Google to check things which weren't related to work.0 -
suspend/sack employees without a "internet usage" policy.
However if the employer issued ainternet clamp down at work last weekHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

yeah i did admittedly autopilot click mail once after but then straight out again.
i had been on the intranet , whilst on a break, which i assume connects to the internet to access which will show up also as internet.
but even then i really never realised there was a no usage policy, i'm still not even sure it is a no usage policy, i'm totally hazy on all that is going on0
