    Afternoon girls!

And a very happy Friday! House-buying is such a minefield, isn't it? Dinah, you've obviously clued up and you know what you want so go for it! The only thing I'd say is not to bank on things you can't guarantee (such as future earnings and even maternity pay)

If you'd asked me about predicted earnings 5 years ago when I graduated, it would be a lot more than I'm on now!! Same for a lot of people, I imagine - I blame the government, but that's a whole other story

Maternity pay is written into my contract, so unless I stop working here, they can't take it off me! As I say if NIM doesn't progress I'll have to keep working, it's not the end of the world. While you might not be earning what you thought you would, neither am I - but in the other direction! I'm a fully paid up member of the 'see where life takes you' school, who knows where we will be in even a year.

Hoping the OU vouchers arrived today otherwise we're gonna be skint as we'll have to pay for the course on the CC and pay it back.

She could do with getting a lightweight buggy rather than a pram really, but i suppose it is the issue of money money money!! Definatly think the sling would be a good idea though.

Maybe sell the pram on Ebay?

Lol, I'm like that too, but that's the scary thing when you're taking out a mortgage for 25 years!! Btw, well done on reaching 20% of your house deposit - it hardly seems any time ago that you were starting it!

Thank you, the annoying % was getting to me so I transfered a little bit over to the ISA to round it up. We're saving about £1k a month, so we could buy and get married next september with a 10% deposit, or wait until the following spring and have about a 15% deposit.... Don't know how or if the extra 5% affects the rate they give it to you. Knowing my luck rates will start shooting up again soon just as we get ready to buy.

I'm also like that too and that's why I have moved from Ireland to Scotland to England and now relocating to another part of England!!!

Luckily - our flat in Scotland has been rented out with no problems since the day we left (touch wood) so the mortgage pays for itself! However, living with that attitude has meant that OH pursued his dreams by doing a 2 year music course & I have lived somwhere I always wanted to, so well worth it!

I'm not sure how much (or if) the deposit affects the rate either - might be worth having a chat with an independent mortgage advisor as they can be pretty helpful.

  • Yikes I go out for my dinner and there's three pages to catch up on!!
Just keep an eye on her. I imagine it would be very easy to slip into a depression when there is a situation like that

Your poor friend Flower, totally agree with CMD, sounds like you are already doing a lot for her.

Those backpack things might be a bit impractical I think if she's wanting to go out and get the shopping, and babies are really heavy!

Oh I love those! They always seem very comfy!

I agree with what I think is the general concensus - house buying and indeed any future planning is so open to so many differing factors that you're best off just planning as best you can and seeing where life takes you.

Yes CMD, in answer to your question ages ago (can't seem to multiquote across pages), I'm off to Bath at the end of Oct with my three best friends, we're getting a posh self-catering apartment, can't wait!

Oh god I need figures for 2pm, gotta go!

Found a great house layout but the location is awful. I need to stop looking at houses, I get all angtsy to have one! Trying to do dooyoo now instead, as a more focussed way of getting towards the dream house.

I have been looking on rightmove aswell this afternoon after all the house talk. Although i have been kind of realistic, have only been looking at rental ones to get an idea of whats around for when we move out of OHs parents.
