I am a teacher, we are not supposed to touch them at all and they have to be removed for PE and swimming. I once had a parent tell me that she wanted me to make her DD (8) take them out as she (parent) couldn't do it

    not my job!!!

IF a parent asks I suggest the first day of the summer holidays so that earrings can be removed for PE!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last
  • There is a lad in her swimming class, he cant be any older than 7/8 he wears them. I was quite suprised !

We are still under hospital care until she turns 7 and her specialist said 13! I think she has more hope of getting her ear pierced !lol!!

A word of warning, if you have you child's ears pierced before the child is 16 years old you could in theory be charged with assault. We had a case last year in school, Mum had it done against father's wishes.

Where i come from ( argentina) it is quite normal to have your ears pierced when you are a baby.. i i have mine when i was little and did so with my daughter, when we went to Argentina, ( she was 4 months old) she had them done by a nurse.... i do not think i am a terrible parent or anything, simply it does not bother me what others think about it,. it is my culture, in the way we do it, then it does not hurt later,.... my daughter looks gorgeous and she is very proud to have them.

My decision to wear earrings wasn't really on the same level as deciding to get married:rotfl:

Sorry OP for taking over your thread:o

Don't worry, I didn't think you did anyway ;). As with most threads on here so many people view them and it just goes to show how opinions differ across certain subjects. x

Well where I work if patients have had recent piercings they are considered to be 'high risk' for HIV and hepatitis B and advised to have blood tests to check. Do you really want to put your children at risk of these sort of diseases ? HIV is still on the increase.

I am 47 and have never had any piercings.
I don't mind the look in older teens or adults but think it looks dreadful when small children have pierced ears.

    Hear hear :D

Female circumcision is part of some countries cultures, but it doesn't make it right.

Quite stunned at the amount of people saying it is ok/it depends on the child....er at age 6 how is a child going to know what they are doing??? [that's why the age of consent is 16]......unbelieveable......

    Hi,

I had my ears done when I was 8, at a jewllers (I think), with a gun. I'd spent 18 months asking - I assisted in caring for them whilst they healed, keeping them moving, my mum cleaned them for me.

I have a 2 year old DD, and I'm liking the suggestion of waiting until the last day of the summer term. I'm not sure what age I'll let her get them done (if she wants them) but she has to be able to help look after them.

I had my ears done a second time when I was 14, but could only wear gold in them, anything else made them sore.

I currently can't wear earrings as they healed up even before I knew I was pregnant with DD!

I'm also in the camp of being squemish about babies with pierced ears. I'd rather hurt myself than deliberately cause my DD any discomfort.

Well what a range of views. Thanks for all the replies and after thinking about this and discussing it with my husband and daughter we feel for her best interests she can have them done when she's a teenager. I'm glad we waddled passed Claire's today only for her to see a baby screaming it's head off. I felt so sorry for the little thing. Babies wearing earings in my view isn't right. I have explained to my 6 year old why we don't want her to have them and she's happy to be getting them as a teenager : )... only she doesn't really understand how long away that is.
