You're the grown up; tell her 'NO'. Until she is an adult and can make her own mind up.

    Simples.

I agree, is this mother a chav? Having a kids ears pierced at 6 years old is really unacceptable.

My DD had her ears pierced a couple of months ago. She will be 8 in November. She has been asking for them since pre-school and I always said no.
Once again she asked and I told her how much it hurts etc etc but there was no putting her off. I couldn't think of a reason other than that I didn't want her to have them done. She is old enough to deal with her own hygiene (sp?) and will wash her own hair etc (we sit on the loo and chat to her).
I thought that if she had her ears done then it may encourage her to take more pride in her appearance as she often looks so scruffy!
I dragged her away from the shop and had a hurried discussion with her Dad who was looking at boys toys with DS. He couldn't see any problems with it. I told her that I would pay £10 towards it and she would have to pay the rest of it. That didn't put her off either. We went into Claires (I know I know!) and had it done. They did them both at the same time which I'm so pleased about because she took in a huge gulp of air and then howled. She went green around her nose like she used to as a baby when she was really upset and I felt really upset. I felt awful for letting her get it done and thought she'd be a nightmare with the cleaning and turning.
She sat and listened to the girls telling me about the cleaning and as soon as we got home she went running off to clean them. She cleaned and cleaned those ears like nobobdies business!
We just bought her a new pair of earrings whilst we were on holiday and she was very cautious about getting them changed. In the end I had to do them because she was too scared. I struggled to get the backs on and off even when they aren't in her ears so I will go and get her some cheap plain studs when I get a chance.
I let her practice taking out and putting in on my earrings but she just couldn't get the backs off.
Still not that happy about her having earrings but it has made a huge difference to her presentation, she's much more fastidious about her hair being tidy etc (but maybe that's her age?).

  • I absolutely HATE seeing babies and young children with their ears pierced, this is a form of body mutilation and it should ALWAYS be an individuals choice to get something like this done (and I've had many piercings in my time, and worked in a piercing parlour so am certainly not anti piercing!). Not everyone actually wants to have ear piercings and a parent has no right to take that choice away from their child, not to mention the unneccesary risks they're being exposed to. As a parent you have to make decisions regarding health issues but this is a neccesity, not because YOU think it's more asthetically pleasing!

My daughter is 5 and has been asking since she was 3 (only because she saw a few unfortunate kids with theirs done at nursery) and she has been told not until she is in secondary school and can fully understand the implications of having them done.

Claire's Accessories is a shop that I refuse to go into because they pierce children. This is not something that should be done at all IMHO let alone in the window of a high street store.

Waiting until 16 should be a legal requirement really but depending on when school summer holidays fall in relation to the 16th birthday you could be a nice mum and relent at 15 and a bit. DD had a 16th birthday at the end of July so was allowed her ears done just fractionally before at the start of the summer hols to ensure they were healed in time for the start of school.

There are laws stopping us mutilating babies in any other way so why are we allowed to fire studs through their ears?
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Excuse me? I asked a question her ears haven't been done YET! and if you had continued reading you would realise that we aren't doing it!!!! How is that a basis for a chav? On a internet forum how can you find it appropriate to judge people? That's disgusting!

For God knew in His great wisdom

If you had read my earlier post (and perhaps even understood it), I stated that my daughters had the right to decide what they did with their own bodies and, as they had chosen to have their ears pierced

So, would you agree to a tattoo just because they asked for it?

What about under age sex; after all - it's their bodies?

Just curious...I do find this totally fascinating.

I had mine done when i was 12, i think at least 12 years old. I think that 6 is too young, and i don't think that children need to wear earings at such a young age.
