    I waited until I was 39!
How stupid was that? All those years when I could have been buying/receiving lovely earings!
There was no history in family of ear piercing and my mum calls it bodily mutilation so i I guess in many ways wen I decided to do it , it was a defining moment in my life when Ifinally grew up and started to live my life my way.
Phew, sorry for long post , who would have thought I cold have so much to say about a simple issue!
    Arty.
My girls were bot about 16/ 17 when they had theirs done.

My DD got hers done when she was 7
    We went to Claire's Accessories
£24 with gold studs, as others have said the girls were really good with her and doubled pierced to get it over with

I had told her she could get them done when she was 8, but I said if she understood how to take care of her ears then she could get it done early.

She did do it all herself under supervision of course,:T and has had no problems at all

  • I was finally allowed to get my ears pierced on my 13th birthday, after years of begging and pleading.

Now I am a mum myself and just the thought of either of my little DDs wanting their ears pierced makes me shudder. Six years old seems really young to me to have it done.

Please don't get them pierced at Claire's, i'd recommend an actual piercing studio as they know what they are doing. I got mine done when i about 10, no younger
p.s. i made the mistake of getting mine done in a jewellers first time...i still have wonky piercings!

FWIW I also think 6 is a little young...although I suppose it depends on the child.

My OH's X had their DD's ears pierced when she was 5/6 (without consulting him:mad:) - she wasn't old enough to keep up with the cleaning (yes it should have been done for her but there you go) - she's a very active girl and did actually rip one of her ears (not right through thank goodness) and for some reason she's now had a horrible reaction to some earrings her mum put in so can't wear them at all now. OH is naturally quite pleased at this development!:D

My dad was teaching at a primary school in the 80s and they had some nasty accidents with hoops and sleepers:eek:

I think around 10 is more appropriate. IMO (and I know it is JUST my opinion!) it looks a bit tacky to have really small children with pierced ears.

i've told mine they can have them done when they are old enough to care for the wounds themselves.
Schools locally request childrens ears are pierced at the start of the summer holiday, so that when they return in september, they can remove the studs on PE days.

I was 10 when i had mine done and it didn't really hurt, it's over in a second. That was over 14 years ago though!

I think 12 is a good age to get it done... I don't like the idea of seeing a 6 yr old with studs in, it looks tacky at the best of times in kids.

Many years ago, (I am old now!) I was 11 when I had mine done, in a local Jeweller, he used ether (or some thing similar, and I hate the smell of that) to clean them, pierced them, I walked down the stairs, and promptly fainted into the arms of a man who was selecting wedding rings with his soon to be wife! :o

I have NEVER lived it down.

I know methods etc have moved on, but TBH I think 6 is a bit young.
