lowest bid auctions

Options
anyone tried these? it seems u have to buy bids then put in amounts and the lowest unique amount wins the item

i can see you would have to buy alot of bids to be in with a chance but has anyone here won anything and do u have any tips?

If you mean sites like Swoopo or Madbid then there has been plenty of comment on MSE about them, usually with warnings to avoid like the proverbial....here's just one example but if you search "Swoopo" in MSE forums them you'll get pages and pages of comments

I use Bidclever.com a lot (I have won on it). There are a few other decent ones out there too

Hezzawithkids is right about Swoopo / Madbid - avoid like the plague!!!

They are simply a form of gambling.

Or a tax on the stupid.

Having used some of these sites, thought I'd review a couple at opposite ends of the range, if anyone's interested.

Swoopo is not technically a scam.... but yes, you can get ripped off.

But, there are similar sites that do not scam you. The other one I'm going to talk about is called spree4.com.

Yes, you still need to buy 'credits' on this site, but it works on a totally different concept to that of swoopo. All the prices of the items are hidden, and to see the price of an item, you need use 1 "credit". Every time a user views the price of an item, the price drops. If you like the price of the item, you can buy it - seems pretty simple.

Looking at it, there are a some big differences between swoopo and spree4.

    1) The more people who use swoopo, the harder it is to actually get a good saving.... completely the opposite on Spree4, the more interest in an item, the more the price goes down and that's better for everyone!

    2) On swoopo, you place a bid, and someone jumps in straight after you. On spree4, you can place a bid, then you have 1 minute to decide whether you want to buy the item or not if you like the price..... during this time it's impossible for any other user to "snipe" you.

    3) At swoopo, its easy to get sucked in to an auction because you've invested money in it..... whereas at spree4... there seems to be no rush, and if you are prepared to wait, then you can make some good savings.

On spree4, they also do "£10 auctions". This means the item can only be bought till the price reaches £10. It sounds like with these you'd need to keep an eye on them... when they reach around the £15 mark, hammer them, and you've a good chance of being the one who makes it drop to £10. Then buy it and be v pleased with yourself!!!

    For me, in summary:

Swoopo = potential for being conned
Spree4 = legitimate concept for making savings

    Hope this is of use.

I've notice a lot of these popping up on various radio stations over the past year or so. Whoever came up with the idea is a genius. Whoever takes part... not so much ;)

Expect a lot more of them popping up as the entire concept website code is available from Hotscripts and Scriptlance for about $500.

Similar to Myphpauction scripts that casued the huge rise in attempts at knocking the ebay market share. That worked well!

    In English? :p

Also, you've not won it until it's in your hands. Expect additional charges before it turns up...
