Pipex To BT. Pipex Will Cancel Email

Options
Hi,

I have now decide to move from Pipex to BT Option 1 for a saving of about £8 per month (No LLU in my exchange)

I telephoned Pipex and requested my MAC code and after some discussion was given it. He also tld me that my email address would be cancelled at the time date of the transfer.

I find this unusual as my wife still uses her Linone address from many years ago and I have a Tiscali address, in the cat's name, that I have also had for many years. My Pipex address is the main one I use for all my business and I did not think I would lose it. There is also the problem that I believe the transfer all happens within one day, but there will be a period of no mans land where I do not have an active email address.

I will obvioulsy set up a new one with BT but unless I can get this is advance of the transfer and BT recevie and store my emails until the transfer I will have problem. There is also the question of actually changing my address on the numerous site I visit and do business with.

If I am forced to change I really need one months email overlap. I know I can set up an email account elsewhere, Hotmail, Google ect, but this would mean either keeing that as my main address or changing it all twice.

I would also point out that communication with the Pipex call center is extremely difficult and every sentence had to be repeated about three times at 10p a minute! Including the time on hold and the security questions it cost me about £2.50 to get the MAC Code!

Has anyone experienced this or can give any advice?

Axel

Why! Use an ISP independent e-mail provider and then this is never a problem when changing ISP's.

  • buy a .co.uk domain for a couple of quid a year, set up mail forwarding to either your new address or a hot/gmail account.

you can then have a nice looking email address.. axel@axelsmail.co.uk or whatever, and you won't be reliant on ANY isp.
