We english gave the world the industrial revolution.we gave the world charles dickens, thomas hardy, agatha christie.

Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.

Like the British Constitution, she owes her success in practice to her inconsistencies in principle. Maybe Hardy would have understood the complexities to the situation now aswell as he did those of his world.

Dickens, well:Electric communication will never be a substitute for the face of someone who with their soul encourages another person to be brave and true.

TBH, I'd read Thomas over Charles anyday.

India wasn't one country before the British arrived - yes British. Lots of projects wouldn't have got off the ground if it wasn't from people from all over the British Isles. But I understand you are proud of forcing people into being a country............

I have said colonisation was not good but surely if we had not abolished suttee women will still have been suffering.

I tell thee... they go through a bit rationing, expect us to put up with their 'stories' and then expect us to let them on the bus first... honestly. :p

I look forward to your tantrum! I can't be doing with these posts either, always gross generalizations, never goes anywhere, someone gets offended (rightly so, often) and we all end up worse for it.

Indeed, the 'native Britons' were eradicated by the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, et al. that the nationalists bang on about

And with that, I'll bow out of the discussion.

And yet, in none of them have I found out if I or DH can be ''British'' or not

dfh, intruth I don't want you to feel I'm gunning for you, I'm not, but this is all very unattractive: and does us, as Brits, no credits to be misinformed and illeducated yet sure in these beliefs. If we were as advanced as we believed in the world order perhap we'd tackle this. I wish you well though.

I had an incident in Real Life today that we found quite tricky to deal with. Online, you can just ignore or whatever.

Sis is down for a weeks hols with my little nieces and nephew.

We are all sitting at Marina, having drink and watched the deep sea fishing boat came in. Men get off clutching bags of fish (all pleased with themselves)....and man at neighbouring table (not local, vistors) barks to everyone...''The fishing is a front, ha ha ha, they're all illegals really..it's how they get in'' then leans over fence and calls down ''Ha Ha..benefits office is this way''.

And it was soooo not funny...then he looks around waiting for laughter and applause at such a show of wit.:o
