why does it always come back to this?

fwiw, I have a nother little story. :)

In Milan I stumbled cross a beautiful Indian restaurant fairly central in town. We were heading to meet friends but suddenly had an overwhelming desire for Indian food, so told our friends to meet us there. They arrived and when the Maitre d' brought me a menu in English though we had spoken only Italian. He and I then had a conversation. He had beautiful Italian and English (never been to England though) grammatically better than many ''natives'' and was educated enough to pick up not only that I was not Italian but where I was from.

Did you then ruin this cultural moment by saying:

"By the way I can't be dealing with any of this spicy rubbish mate. Gimmie an ommlette and two pints of Carling garcon. He'll have a korma, plain naan but with none of that green stuff. What is again? Corrienderer or sommat? Anyway, whatever it is we don't want it. In fact no green sh*t or owt like that. And make with the haste, there's a good lad. You got a fag machine in 'ere?"

Of course I did. Then I readjusted my branded sportswear for ease of scoffing, all the time goading my comapnions I could take i hotter, being a real man.

Another problem is that people from abroad often do not understand metaphors-So you can say-it is raining cats and dogs-and they will think you have gone mad.Can be amusing though !

Another problem is the security in overseas call centres. Take a look at the following link. And this is the BBC not the daily mail !

I don't know why it is now a crime to be proud to be English.I agree colonisation was not right but we abolished cruel practices like suttee and child marriage in India. We also gave them railways. And we have given the world the English language. We should celebrate our achievements. How else shall we inspire the younger generations if we teach them to be ashamed of our heritage?

Oh dfh, a few months ago I would have typed an essay, but I can't be bothered now. It isn't a crime to be English, or proud of it for that matter. You just seem to be judging people on their nationality rather than their merits and qualities. But maybe I've read you wrong.

Just one point, we didn't 'give the English language' to anyone. It just evolved here from a mixture of a bunch of other languages and then we might have foisted it upon others. It's not really the easiest language to learn either, so it's not really a gift.

Of course we did not give it but it has been embraced all around the world.Look at Hollywood movies. They are watched all over the world.I think we should teach our kids to be proud of what they are and not ashamed as seems to be the norm these days.

Sorry I digress but the fact remains that overseas call centres are not as secure as uk ones.
