too many ads on ITV etc.

Anybody fed up of after less than 10 minutes of America's Got Talent or Xfactor etc. you get a commercial break!!!! And often a few minutes before the end of a programme another ad break!!!

I understand they need an ad break but 4 per hour is too much!! and often now I record the prog and playback fast forwarding through the ads where I wouldn't have minded sitting through 1 set per 30 mins in the past!!

They could have shot themselves in the foot by too many ads and anyway these 2at least are sponsored and the voting revenues etc.

I don't watch these shows. But they have now it seems gone the same way as the sat channels ads wise. It will get worse as they need as much advertising as they can get now. Most US shows are only 42-45 minutes long, so to make them up to the hour lenght its ads. I go channel surfing usually in the ad breaks, mostly the music channels.

Errr where have you been for the last 30 odd years?
I am 41 and having watched ITV / HTV / TSW for as long as I can remember have always had advert breaks on the hour, 1/4 hour 1/2 hour and 3/4 hour that to me makes 4 per hour.
Always has been always will. If you want ads go to the USA. Every 10 mins there and they edit the UK shows to fit them in.
Deal with it and go and make a cuppa.
    Sheesh!

Edit:: Just seen you were on about Simon Cowell's diatribe and ritual abuse of the nation. Adverts? Well come on what do you expect from a man whose only concern is abusing the nation for the sake of his wallet? I was correct with the go and make a cuppa.. Except stay in the kitchen till the chav infested program finishes.

I never recall having only 6 minutes of a prog and then an ad break!!!! (because you have just had one ad break before!!)

As you say they have been on the 1/4 1/2 3/4 which is
3 in the actual prog BUT now there is 4, which is too much (I would say) for viewers and could put them off which is bad for ITV etc.

I am just asking for opinions as
4 is too much in my opinion

  • Hey,
you don't have to get upset :)

On german tv (such as Pro7, Sat1 or RTL - the most watched channels) adverts display time is much longer than on ITV (it's usualy 14:59 minutes only for adverts as the time can not be longer than 15 minutes).

But... we are in Britain though LOL

Shy is particularly bad for this. You can be seven minutes into some programmes and the adverts come on. Sometimes the opening titles have only just stopped!

I generally don't wacth any channel that incldes adverts but it's annoying when it breaks into an interesting doumentary. I can usually find something else to watch for 5 minutes though.

Totally agree, it seems to be getting worse.

I was forced to watch X cra*tor and was apalled by the number of add breaks, particularlly the first one after only a couple of minutes of the programme.

What really gets me is why programmes have to be sponsored. (well I can see why but it still annoys me)
Parkinson was sponsored by a German biscuit company. Whats that got to do with anything!!!!

You need a PVR. You're spending 1 hour watching 40 minutes of TV. Whilst you having been saving up all that anger to post onto the forum, lots of people have been recording shows and watching them later in the same quality as they were broadcast and living happily ever after. BTW I beleive there are rules about how many breaks and how many minutes of advertising there are allowed to be in UK TV. US doesn't have this and their TV really is FULL of adverts. Then the show os sponsered by someone as well. Then in the actual programme they interview someone trying to sell a book.... etc....

    There's just no point.
