Someone came to see me yesterday and we got started on bras and asked if she was in the right size.... she mentioned the m.... word and I could feel myself tense up. She then said how she was comfy but not supported and I said you really are in the wrong size and explained that the back needs to be supportive too, look see how your band is riding up. I went and got a bra (with her permission of course, LOL) and tried it aroundher band and said 'look, this is a 38' and she said but it's too tight, I said it is because your body has to be used to a fitted bra, if you are not happy with a 38 then go for a 40 because it will still fit better.
Turned out that M&S had measured her at a 44 back (and it really was way too big) and she had bought 10 of these bras (Yes, 10!!) at £16 each as they were 'comfy'. She was adamant that comfy was better.
AG, so pleased that you are finally comfy, it makes a difference to ho you look and feel too.
CS&L - I PM'd you back!! Not really that blue though!!Happy to offer help and support. (ha, did you see what I did there!! LOL, I know - it's late)

I'm a 34FF and Debenhams said I was a 40 something, but they didn't have that size anyway so tried to make me be a 42 something else.
I was wearing a 36 which was too big so guessed it wasn't right and went to Bravissimo.
I have a podgy tummy, but a small ribcage so I don't think they expected my back size to be as small as it is. I'm half convinced a 34 is too big for me, but I don't want to be a 32G - but if I was, I guess I could buy bras from Asda as they don't acknowledge that FF exists.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

LOL, Juno, I have started losing some weight and I think I too am dropping to a 30 in Panache but that would make me a 30H/HH.... eek!! My Freya 32G's fit a treat. I am surprised Debenhams treated you like that though, it must have been a one off as they are usually brilliant.
PS. Just to scare you. If you go down a back size you need to go up 2 cup sizes - so from 34FF that would make you a...... 32GG!! Have you tried any?? If you get Freya the cut and fit is the same as the G in most styles so have a think about it if you think they are too big.0 -
The problem with needing large cups sizes, is that the bras have more stuctural support built in, and this is what you are paying for
Yes i know, you think i am shallow.......correctbut that would make me a 30H/HH0 -
I am 36 years old and always been an AA; despite putting on three stone in weight I am still an AA! M&S have just this year started offering AA's in the adults section, previously you could only get them in kids bras which often came in pastel colours or had Snoopy on!!
Also why do so many companies underwire AA bras, I have nothing to hold up and it's just uncomfortable.
This threads a really interesting read (thanks OP!) I'm a also a student on the look out for bargains in odd sizes. I'm a 32G and would love to find bras with snoopy on etc! haha. I think the bras in H&M etc. are really cute, I wish I could walk into any high street shop and buy bras.
There is definatly something to be said about price and quality though. If you need fitting Bravissimo are fantastic, and for buying online figleaves are great as you can send back what doesn't fit (and there are always a few discount codes flying around!).
There are obviously so many people who need more unusual sizes and things are getting better all the time- maybe one day lots of high street shops will make bigger sizes!
FYI- figleaves have a 20% off voucher about atm! I'm off to buy a bra
Thanks to everyone with great ideas for where to shop!0 -
Lots of bras on offer here at the mo www.lingerie-heaven.com some with a reduction of 40% when buying two so well worth having a look, specially for those with difficult-to-source sizes. You just add 2 to the basket and the discount kicks in and comes off then - so Panache Tango II are £14.40 each for example.
What I do is go to Bravissimo and get properly measured, then buy online. The ones mentioned above are up to around £28 in Bravissimo......it's a brilliant shop but I can't afford those prices so this is a great offer.
Hope this helps someoneI let my mind wander and it never came back!0
