Hi all. Not a good day in the clearing camp

OMG...
A scary thing happened to me today... I've just been sitting around sorting out all my old bills and statements and things, shredding them (you will see the irony in a sec).
An email pops up from Verified by Visa, thanking me for changing my password. "I haven't changed my password?" I think to myself, slightly alarmed. Try to log in to VbV, no luck and the account is locked so I ring them. Some swearword has somehow got hold of my details, outwitted VbV, run a test transaction for a £5er and then attempted to spend nearly £500 quid at an online electrical store :eek::eek:
Luckily I didn't have that much in the account and the transaction was declined, but it's shaken me up a bit. I spoke to the fraud people at A&L and they've cancelled the card and everything so I should get the £5 back - but now I'm worried as to where they could have got it from?  The people at A&L told me all I needed to do was cut the card up and it would all be taken care of - I'm currently looking through this site but if anyone has any advice it would be gratefully received.
It's horrible I feel like I've been violated!

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me. Except I picked it up on my monthly statement! Not big spends but a £5 here and there all the way in Scotland when I live down South! What got me was that the card they used I have never ever used in a shop or online as it is the joint account and is only there as you get it with the account. I've never even taken the card out of the house!
It is a really horrible feeling and I did get all my money back and the police where informed and a statement given. Heard nothing since and I have to say I am so careful these days with shredding everything and then when I can burning it. It's so easy for little b****** to get your details!
Anyway, hugs to you as I know it's not very nice.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'

Oh god thats awful, im glad you picked up on it so quickly.
I have never had that happen to me, but OH was mugged last year and by the time we had cancelled his credit card the little b*****ds had already spent over £300 on his credit card. He got it back eventually, but its just the cheek of these people that think its ok to do that to honest people.Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0
