Smashbox primer - you can't get this on the shops, only online. It's really good for keeping your foundation on. I've also heard that Laura Mercier primer is good.

If you want a money saving version of this the beauty board swear by lanacaine anti chafe gel instead - it has exactly the same ingredients and many say it works as well for amount a tenner less

I was in superdrug today and there was a l'oreal studio secrets mattifying primer which I tried and it smelt and felt so identical to smashbox photo finish primer that I'm sure it's the same thing. It was reduced from around £10 to around £8 - I'm going to try that when my smashbox primer's finished.

    Insider info.....

Aldi do a mke up range and have a touche eclat. Its exactly the same, the same amount of pigment etc and is £4!!!

    Try it!

Thanks to your tip I went to Aldi today. Their version of Touche Eclat is even cheaper than you said - £3.59, to be precise! I also bought some face serum (£2 something) and eye cream (£1.59) which seem to be very good quality. I bought some £2.50 foundation as well, and it does give good coverage, but feels a bit too sticky for my liking.
For the price of a Touche Eclat, I bought the four items above, a nail buffer, some make-up removal wipes and a pack of recordable DVDs. And I still had £8 left over!

Smashbox primer - is fantastic and a lot goes a very long way. It really does keep your foundation and make up in place all day so it is a very good investment. I know it is not very moneysaving but i really rate Chanel foundation (matt finish one) again on the pricey side but cheaper than make up artist and you get to keep the whole bottle! I have tried various foundations and really cant recommend this enough. Also if you try larger boots/debenhams stores you can collect the points on their reward scheme so it will soften the blow when you get to the checkout. You could always go in store and ask for a make over explain its bridal make up and ask for few samplesa of products if you explain you have not tried the products before hand and want to see how they last/suit you for the whole day. This is what i did and the sales assistance was great, giving me various tips through out the make over. Good luck x
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat - pricey but hides a multitude of sins.
  • I have been looking into getting smashbox primer today, but there is a waiting list on qvc, where else could I get it?

I am definitely going to get some of that touche eclat but cheaper form Aldi!

I still need ideas on eyeshadow and lipstick/gloss re colours!

I am defintiely going to tour the make up counters and see whatI can nab, I went to Clarins last week and they gave me loads of samples of moisturisers and the beauty flash balm, which I am dying to try out, but haven't had the chance yet!

Thanks again for all the replies you are really helping me out! xxx

Tigerlilly - perhaps try the L'oreal studio secrets primer I mentioned above? I'm 90% certain (from the feel and smell of it) that it's the same as Smashbox but at less than half the price. The only other place I've heard you can get Smashbox is at airports.

Eyeshadows - I really like the colours that NARS do, but that's quite a personal thing as I like to wear browns and golds as they look natural with my olive skin-tone. I also like their bronzers. I had a makeover at SpaceNK and they used a lot of NARS products on me, which I loved.

I have given up altogether with lipstick / gloss. It just doesn't stay on for more than an hour with me, even with those topcoat / balm things. I don't know what I'm going to do about that on my wedding day.

I've been playing with the Aldi stuff. The face serum is fantastic and comparable to much more expensive products. The eye cream also feels nice. The concealer pen is a good alternative to Touche Eclat if you want to avoid using something that expensive every day, but it's not exactly the same. It's a bit thicker and drier and doesn't quite have the highlighting / brightening effect that the YSL does. But it's still very good for the price, and I'll be using it as a cheaper alternative when I'm not too bothered about looking radiant!

For slightly cheaper touch eclait try here...

    http://www.feelunique.com/p/YSL-Touche-Eclat.html

also some reductions on other foundations etc.

For my wedding make up I went to lancome counter and they did a 'make over' showing me how to apply it all and then I bought various bits from them, the eyeshadow was great and stayed on all day and night.

Foundation I like Mac liquid foundation and find it stays longer if you apply with a foundation brush, also discovered Benefits "talk to the tan" which you can mix with foundation and makes it stay on even longer as it's nearly like a stain that only comes off with make up remover.

Lip glosses I have lots of favs....on the cheap end Tesco do some fantastic ones that are really nice, dearer ones I like are benefit and clarins.
