Wedding makeup, what can't you live without?

Options
HI everyone! I haven't a clue what I need to be buying as wedding makeup. I don't want to be very different to normal, but I do want to look a bit more polished!

I am doing my makeup myself and was wondering what foundations are great, bronzers, blushers, eyeshadows, mascaras etc you will all be using or have used?

Also do I need a primer, which one is good and how do you use it?

I really like the GOSH (Superdrug) primer, I've also tried Body Shop, Avon & Benefit ones.

Prescriptives are the king of foundations, the do nice loose powder, as do Laura Mercier. A really good budget loose powder is Elemental Beauty (google them).

  • l'oreal true match powder is one of my must haves, and i use urban decay baked bronzer as it is one of the only ones that i have found that doesn't have glittery bits in it... it is quite dark though!
make sure if you are buying brushes that you invest in some decent ones - some cheap ones will leave black bristles all over your face, not a good look for the piccies ;)
  • Debs, I have an avon foundation at the mo that I love. I normally have the rimmel recover one, but find the avon one seems to give more cover. I'm going for browns aswell, which shades will you be using? I also don't want to look like a clown as I don't wear much makeup noramlly and would feel uncomfortable!

What is the best way to apply eyeshadow as I don't wear that at all normally?

Should I use a powder over a foundation, or just on it's own?

I like the sound of the superdrug primer, but haven't a clue what you do with it lol!!

    Thanks again, Tiger xxx

tiger i use a eyeshadow primer by urban decay which is really amazing stuff, its definitely worth using a specific eyeshadow primer and a foundation primer everywhere else IMO. i've been using it for nearly 10 years now and i've tried others but none are anywhere near as good! i put that on first, you only need a small amount, and then a fine dusting of a very nude shade of eyeshadow over it so that the coloured shadow goes on more evenly.

mrs e, i've just ordered samples of that elemental beauty foundation as i've seen you and others recommend it, so heres hoping its as good as you say ;) i got two shades of foundation and a finishing powder and including postage it was £4.05, bargain!!

Primer first, wait a few mins
    Then foundation, wait a minute
    Then loose powder.

Laura Geller (QVC, Ebay) do fab blushers;)

I like the finishing power, the powder healing concealer & the under eye brightner.

Never tried the eyeshadows or blushers as I like these pressed.

Never tried the foundation as I'm a liquid girl:D

None of these are very moneysaving, I'm afraid, but I'm also doing my own makeup and decided to spend the money I would have spent on getting someone to do my makeup on buying some decent products.

Smashbox primer - you can't get this on the shops, only online. It's really good for keeping your foundation on. I've also heard that Laura Mercier primer is good.
Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation - this really does stay on all day, but it's very matte, even if you have oily skin, and you will need some kind of illuminating / highlighting fluid to stop you looking like a ghost. I use Benefit Hollywood Glo, but I think this has been discontinued.
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat - pricey but hides a multitude of sins.
I don't like powders as I have olive skin and they all look too pale. I fix my makeup with a fixer spray that Clarins do.
Lancome Hypnose mascara - very effective and won't budge if you end up crying during the vows.
I also practicing using an eyeliner gel from Prescriptives rather than a pencil as you can get a cleaner line with it, but you will need a special (stiff) brush.
