I know there are risks involved with PayPal but I could not operate on ebay without it.
Unless you selling cars or houses I thik everyone would agree that they couln't operate without Paypal.
My major gripe is the lack f competition and soomeewhat extorniate fees that I belive Paypal charge (have you seen their UK hq? It's like a posh house) despite having lower outgoing than most merchants. They know that, yet they still want to keep us over a barrel.. why because at the moment they can

There's loads of competition, it's just that they are all more expensive than Paypal. Have you costed up a merchant account recently. Paypal is a bargain in comparison. What goes around - comes around0 -
Nochex is competition and it's cheaper.
Bank transfer is competition and it's freeee! My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
https://www.bleugh.co.uk/paypal
just PLEASE make sure you're covered by the seller protection on this transaction
make sure the address is confirmed / validated, make sure the ebay addresses and paypal addresses match
then,
post it only to the addy on paypal (DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES POST IT TO ANY OTHER ADDY)
use SPECIAL delivery (nothing else is good enough)
then you #should# be ok
- if possible get a landline phone number for them (makes them easier to track down if they scam you)money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I agree that nochex is competition in a limited sense, but since it has daily limits and is only UK based it isn't any good for those of us who sell internationally, or for higher end items.
Bank transfers are not in the same league. Buyers mainly use paypal as they perceive they have some protection, even if that paypal protection is not 100% it is a lot more than you would get with a bank transfer where you wave goodbye to your money if the item doesn't turn up and your seller declines to refund you.
Also as a seller I still have to wait 4 days for a bank transfer unless they happen to bank with the same bank. That slows me down as I rely on a very quick turnover, virtually everything I sold Tuesday night has been sent and some even has feedback left both ways already. I like speed, I have so many different things on auction and in my shop that I can't keep track easily without paypal.
