With a Personal account you can have a maximum of £250 go into your account in a month. That's from all sources, so splitting it into 2 parts won't work.

Yep, if you have a Personal account and you have been paid with a card (PayPal call all cards credit cards even debit ones) you will need to upgrade your account I'm afraid.
Don't want to scare you too much, but remember that your xbox 360 is a valuable item, so ensure you take all precautions as noted in the Seller Protection Policy. There are scams about - don't fall for them! It is possible for PayPal to reclaim the money from your PayPal account should there be any issues (if the buyer claims non-delivery, or the funds used were suspicious). You must send by trackable means (special delivery in your case) and to the Buyers confirmed address as shown in PayPal to benefit from any level of protection. The full text of the Seller Protection Policy is here.
Don't be alarmed though, most transactions are ok - if you need help just post back! =o)0 -
Just to add - splitting transactions like you suggest above (£200 + £200 = £400 etc.) automatically disqualifies you from any form of protection - don't do it! =o)0

Actually, even if you've been paid not using a card you'll run afoul of this limit. Unfortunately, if you haven't refused the payment (as opposed to refunding) your limit doesn't get reset. Your only hope of avoiding these fees is to refuse the payment, and ask your purchaser to pay you by cheque. If I was your purchaser, I wouldn't do it, but you might get lucky.

Dont use paypal !!!!! for that value you are likely to suffer a charge back. Tell them to send a check.
yes paypal will charge those fees if you upgrade its business, they are doing you a service of money transfer yet i dont agree with how steep the charges are. And no protection. You would be better off with a cheque."Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
Ah yes!
Account Limits (receiving money):
Personal Account Limits: £250 GBP per month
Premier Account: £450 GBP per month
Therefore any user that receives over GBP £450 in any one month is considered a business user and may have to provide their business details. I'm not sure why? Will you be charged VAT on the sale?0 -
PayPal is Pure Scum

The eBay/PayPal monopoly would not be pleased! They managed to squeeze out Fastpay (NatWest's alternative) and NoChex (the British 'PayPal' used on auction site qxl.co.uk), but gPay would be a seriously different matter! =o)0 -
use moneybookers 1% to send money and you can't cancel a payment, once its sent its sent.0

Where did you get this value of a £450 limit for Permier Accounts? The PayPal T&Cs only statealexpeck wrote:Ah yes!

Will you be charged VAT on the sale? When you receive a total cumulative amount greater than £5,000.00 GBP, you will be required to provide further authentication of your identity and business.Although, presumably, if you only have a Premier Account and no business, it’s just the identity bit they’ll want.古池や蛙飛込む水の音0
