This is why I don't shop in Tesco's in particular. Has anyone noticed how the 2p/4p curry sauce has gone up to nearly 50p in Tesco/Asda?? I used to love it on chips, now I find it too expensive.

I shop in Lidl now where a bargain *is* a bargain - I've been getting their fresh lasagne at £2.80 a throw for months, a week or so ago it was on offer at £2, so I got 2, I went in today and it's back up to £2.80 which is what I expected. The offer on corn this last week at 24p a fresh cob has seen me cooking and freezing cobs this week, and their steak pie half price at £1.28 was stated by hubby as 'nicer than marks and spencers!' Next week it'll be full price again, and something else will be on offer. I love Lidl :)

maybe theres a reason for that, maybe the first price was £9.99 then it went on special offer to £5.99 and when the offer finished the pen pushers at tesco HO deicded to reduce the normal price for the item

This is quote a well known tactic by most supermarkets, when they have a new wine in they put it special offer at the price they intend to sell it for anyway. The special offer tags show the wine should be say £9.99 and they have it on special offer for say £5.99. With wine people think its a £10 bottle of wine which they perceive to be better than a £5.99 bottle. So the supermarket get extra sales as the customer thinks they are getting a bargin.

Have a look at the new wines they have on special offer at the end of the aisles, then have a look at what price they are again when the offer has ended in say three weeks time. They are very likely to be on sale at the special offer price still
  • It's a pity that supermarkets persist in using this underhand method.
  • Supermarkets get away with it because

I buy the packs of cooked meats, and they used to be 2 for £3.50, but I noticed Tesco have reduced the price to 2 for £3 now. I was pleased, but it wasn't until I got home that I noticed they've also reduced the number of slices per pack from 6 slices to 5 slices. I worked it out and it actually costs 1p a slice more now. Not such a bargain after all.
Here I go again on my own....

this happens with quite a few products now - so it looks as though the product has gone down in price.

Does anyone still fall for it when Tescos inflate the price of an item and then reduce it again to make it appear like a bargain. I love the way they have not spotted the mistake in their pricing with these cookies...

They did the same with packs of 6 bread rolls which went up in price from 37p to an eyewatering 65p a pack. They then offered 2 packs for a reduced price of £1.00.
