I'm on click 6 - will I be better off moving to websaver 4, now?

I hate the way BG change their on-line tariffs and hang their current on-line customers out to dry. I'd love to change suppliers but BG usually works out cheapest for me.

Been saying this for ages on here (and occasionally incurred the wrath of notorious BG huggers :p). They started this online tariff malarkey in 2006 with Click Energy 1 (they actually just called it Click Energy when it launched, the numbering came later probably when they hit on the idea of superseding the tariff constantly!).

In the 3 years since introduction we've had no less than SIX Click Energy tariffs and FOUR Websaver tariffs. Pretty scandalous, tbh, but even worse now they appear to be imposing an exit fee. Seriously, what do Ofgem do all day in that nice office? On average, BG supersede their 'cheapest' online tariff once every 4 months. Strange that the switching sites always give you the annual price for any BG online tariff when they tend to last just 4 months, don't you think?

What you have to remember is that all six of the energy suppliers take it in turn to launch new tariffs simply to claim they are the "cheapest" and of course to keep the comparison sites in money.
The whole thing is just a "merry-go-round".

If any of the six providers had any credibility they would immediately scrap all their tariffs and have ONE price for gas and ONE price for electricity and stop trying to con and bambooozle the general public with all their gimmicks.

That way a true comparison could be made, but ,of course, they don`t want to be open and honest.

    Like Ebico do already.

    Agree,agree, agree
    BUT

I went with Ebico approx 3 years ago and I`m still with them for gas.

After a thorough search and compaparison, using my own calculations and yearly usage, I could not ignor the fact that B Gas worked out cheaper for electricity by £45 a year (websaver3) and so I switched on 22nd July 09.

Would a punter currently on Websaver3 be charged the £60 exit fee if they transferred to Websaver4?

This i would also like an answer to,although in my case it`s £30 (electricity only) if I exit before Dec 2009.

When companies bring out lower tariffs their existing customers should be put on them automatically without penalty.

Just today I received my contract via email, with an apology for the delay due to a techical hitch, and when I looked at the T&C`s it says the following:

If you cancel this agreement, either by moving to another gas or electricity supplier or by requesting to change your gas and/or electricity to another of our tariff(s) at any time prior to 28 February 2010 we may apply a cancellation charge (inclusive of any VAT that may be applicable). The cancellation charges are £30 (inc VAT) for electricity and £30 (inc VAT) for gas. This charge will not be applied if the agreement is cancelled due to a home move.

The funny thing is that these are the T&C`s for websaver4, although I signed up for websaver3.
so now I`ll need to check if I have been changed without my knowledge.

Having checked the figures for my electricity only, Click 6 remains cheaper so I'm not being hung out to dry!

Just spoke to B Gas, very nice guy based in Cardiff and I`m assured I`m on W3 tariff and tied by a £30 penalty until 1st Dec. 09

On these boards I have been one of the biggest knockers about BG but so far I can`t fault them for the change-over and their CS.
    Unbelievably they have improved.

Hmm. WS4 is more than 50% more expensive than the cheapest tariff for me. Clearly the tariff structure is not targeted to low users.
  • This is BG, KY. ALL BGs online tariffs are basically engineered to be at their absolute cheapest based on average consumption (20,500/3,300). This allows them to make their 'cheapest dual fuel' claims. Stray too far away from these usage figs and it can become a whole different story. Cynical marketing?

Are you sure? The one I am looking at says:

Existing WebSaver customers choosing to switch to WebSaver 4 will be liable to pay the cancellation fees applicable.
