What's wrong with Dogs 4 us?

They sell pedigree dogs, and have done for years - they are not doing anything wrong - people want puppies, they sell them. Awesome place, its just supply & demand!

    What a ridiculous post.

Places like this are renowned for selling unhealthy puppies from un-healthtested parents. They will sell to anyone with the money, rather than people who are actually SUITABLE to have a puppy.

Places like Dogs4Us keep the puppy farms going FGS! Buying a puppy isn't (or certainly shouldn't be) the same as going to a supermarket for a tin of beans

Have you thought this through Dobiesmon?

If Dogs4Us aren't trading in farmed puppies, then where are they getting them from?

As for Many Tears, that's the equivalent of a receiver of stolen goods.
Goods not worth stealing without someone to receive them.

If many tears didn't exist, the puppy farmer would have to dispose of the breeding girls and risk exposure. To take in these poor things is to aid the puppy farmer.
Please don't aid these vile people directly or indirectly and that includes "oohing and cooing" over mass produced pups at Dogs4Us.

About 10 years ago I managed to get a farm shut down, but it wasnt easy especially with a toothless RSPCA and it took a long time and god knows how many dogs suffered in that time.

Realistically the most we can do is to educate people about how to buy a puppy properly from a good breeder so people stop buying from farms. "If there is no demand there is no supply"

Its all too easy to be taken in by a very cute 8 week old pup, who is available now, Its part of the instant gratification society that drives me nuts.

Interestingly I found this as a freedom of information request to Leeds City Council

Over the last 12 months we have received 42 requests for service in
    relation to Dogs 4 Us Leeds LS13 2EF .

These relate to the following issues:

    Employee welfare 1
Unhappy at premises being licensed- 14
    Concerns about the conditions 18
    Other issues 3
Health issues from puppies bought from premises 4

Whilst I agree with your criticism of Dogs4us, I cant agree with your criticism of Many Tears rescue - bear in mind that many of the breeders who they rescue spent breeding b1tches and stud dogs from are farmers who have diversified into breeding and trading in dogs after other forms of farming became less profitable.

As many of these farmers see the dogs only as commodoties to be bred and traded, and as of course, most will have guns, it is not at all difficult for them to dispose of unwanted animals - in fact, often it takes a long time and a lot of persistence for rescues to persuade them to hand the unwanted dogs over.

Handing the dogs into rescue (especially those who clearly show signs of cruelty, ill health and neglect) means the farmers risk exposure of bad practice, and keeping dogs in poor condition, and could be prosecuted, so actually it is easier, and less 'risky' for the farmer to put a bullet into the dog's head and get rid of the evidence - and this is perfectly legal too.

I know many farmers who would never pay for the cost of having an animal put to sleep by the vets when they can shoot it for free, (in the farming communities shooting it would be normal, paying for PTS costs would be seen as eccentric and 'soft') so do not think disposing of unwanted animals is in any way a challenge for the puppy farmers.

Sorry for not 'knowing' about Dogs 4 us then. I love going there to see the puppies, and im currently looking to buy one........ maybe now il go to a proper breeder?

Dogs are with sites like many tears because people dont treat animals right and dont have to qualify to own a dog - its not a puppy farms fault. Every dog owner should require a licence, and all dogs should be chipped at birth. Owners should then be made responsible for dogs.

Blame the owners and the law - not the puppy selling points.
  • Yes, owners are partly to blame...but if these places did not exist, then Puppy farmers would soon be out of business.

Dogs are with Many Tears because they are the fall out of the breeding industry. They are the lucky ones.

What good would a licence do?

There is a lot to learn about where to get a pup from, and I am glad this thread has been informative.

Many of the dogs in rescues such as Many Tears have been mistreated and abused by the puppy farmers, so indeed it is their fault - please have a look at this website to see how some puppy farmers treat their pups and breeding dogs: http://www.dogs-r-us.org/undercover.shtml

Most of the dogs at Many Tears are directly from puppy farms, puppy farms exists because people have not been educated about what gives the pup the best chance of being happy and healthy in their new home.

We have enough laws in this country which aren't enforced, what good would more laws do?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I've been directly involved and indirectly with rescue for years before I just couldn't do it any more... Trust me - if the pups at rescues like Many Tears didn't get handed to the rescue then they'd be "disposed" off - the rescues work VERY hard to develop a "relationship" with the puppy farms to make sure this doesn't happen... whilst also campaigning to get them shut down or tighten the regulations that govern them.
I've transported breeding b!tches and seen then state they were in when "retired" and until you see just how ill, old, run down and tired a 6 year old dog can look after non-stop litters from it's first season then you simply cannot appreciate the horror of a puppy farm :(
