Puppy farms/outlets

Hi all
I was called yesterday by a lady who is trying/going to arrange a demonstration
to help bring it to the public and get news papers back interested she has spoken to tv etc , she is hoping to do it re- dogs 4 us either Manchester or Leeds as they are the largest stores .
What are your thoughts on this , would you be willing to join ,
Mine are it would only disrupt that days trade and not affect the puppy farms where the pups come from , I feel if we can reach the public maybe with a great
leaflet drop our own towns or car parks or stand and hand them to people outside these places it might stop them buying from them if there is no demand for the sale from these places it will have a knock on affect to the puppy farms. also what happens to the pups they don't sell .
any thoughts

What's wrong with Dogs 4 us?
They sell pedigree dogs, and have done for years - they are not doing anything wrong - people want puppies, they sell them. Awesome place, its just supply & demand!0 -
thats like protesting about smoking by setting up a stall outside your local tobacconist0

Have a look at the dog on this link. This is my dog Hovis.
(edited to say that as a new user I'm not allowed to post links so you need to google myweb.tiscali.co.uk/hopeuk - enter the site and click on 'saved')
I took him in after he was rescued along with several other dogs kept for breeding from a puppy farm. A puppy farm that supplies puppies to the likes of Dogs4Us just so that they can sell them to people who want puppies.
As the link suggests Hovis was one of the lucky ones. Take a look around that site and then ask yourself again "What's wrong with Dogs 4 us?"
My Hovis will never be a normal dog because of the abuse that he suffered. It took months to get him back to physical fitness but the brain damage is permanent.
If you would like to come and meet my Hovis you would be welcome. He won't wag his tail and he won't let you touch him and he will probably bark at you and run away but hopefully by then you will know "What's wrong with Dogs 4 us?"A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.0 -
I have met Hovis (S, tis KB ) he is a breathtakingly beautiful dog, truely is stunning. He is very lucky to have found Sarabe.
If you take a look at Many Tears et all websites, there are crying out for help with the "leftovers" of the puppy farm business, all because of places like this...and you think thats okay to do that to a living feeling being!Kent Bird!:beer:0 -
The ex-breeding dogs on Many Tears always look in poor condition, its very sad that they were just breeding machines but at least they have chance of a better life.
I don't live near enough to join in but even if the demonstration only makes people going to the store that day consider whats wrong about it or where the puppies come from its a good thing. I do think awareness on puppy farms and back yard breeders needs increasing in general as many people don't realise where there buying from, although with the internet available sometimes i wonder if folk just don't really care as long as they can get a puppy easily.
Personally i don't think its the right to sell puppies/kittens in pet stores, it makes them more like a convenience item and less like the 15yr commitment they are. I have visited a store like dogs 4 us and people were buying all the puppy stuff in the pet store while carrying their new pup so didn't look like a well researched, prepared purchase.0 -

Awesome??? really? selling sick pups, from overbred b1tches... ?
buying an animal is never just about supply and demand, there is an intrinsic ethical consideration too, or should be.0 -
aww hovis bless him
If it was closer to me I would get involved not that many people will take much notice! Worth a try tho!0 -

What does 'pedigree' mean? It means a list of ancestors. In the dog world this should be the pups parents and their parents. Those parents don't even have to be of the same breed for this list to be a pedigree........
People want puppies and Dogs 4 Us supply them - true. But producing a pup that is healthy and fit, both physically and mentally, to go into a family home takes a little more than mating any old dog to any old female dog and then putting the offspring in a cage to look cute, and then reliving your clients of their money and passing on any health problems.
If you buy a pup from such a place, rarely will it be 'fit for purpose' as per the Trades Description Act, but because it's a living breathing thing, the new owners will rarely take it back to get their money back - this is known by sales men as the 'puppy dog effect' - leave your product with the customer for a 'trial' and they won't want to part with it. It works for a photo copier, so of course it's going to work with a sickly pup.
These people abuse dogs in a legal fashion, and they break families hearts. Yes, it's legal, but unless people protest about it, it's going to stay that way. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I love going to Dogs 4 us in Pendlebury. I love puppies. I just wish they'd stay that soze for ever!
However, I'd never buy from there as I don't agree to puppy farms/mills etc.0
