I have given up contacting them, the best way to deal with most things is to take matters into your own hands, calling them does no good what so ever, they come out have a look and then come up with a excuse as to why they cant 'help'. I see horses at Appelby Fair getting beat to death all the time and they just stand and watch on because they are scared to do so.. The TV says about Baby P no disrespect to him god love him.. but what about all the animals which the RSPCA dont help and they end up dieing aswell.. its discraceful! That horse at appelby died because they did nothing, the guy drugged it and drowned it along with 2 dogs, all because they didnt do anything to stop it, even when it was there infront of there eyes... Also there was a big thing on the news not that long ago about that man that had all them horses and starved them to death, im sure the rspca was called there but but did nothing? xTheres 2 types of horse owner, a person who owns a horse and a horsey person

Please let me know as there is a growing movement of discontent with this org , with the new animal welfare act in place they are still letting animals die when they are aware of cruelty etc.
Please take a look at www.germanshepherdrescue.co.uk and read homepage re..The late Bruno, and Lulu, pup, fluffy dog all owned by one man , what did rspca do....nothing , . R.I.P. Bruno, we will continue the fight ....All animal lovers out there please read ....and lets all act to ensure no other animal suffers ......
I not only complained I took action, this is a copy of the email that I sent to them:
Dear Sir,
Please note that I am cancelling my direct debit of £6.50 per month to you. I am appauled by your lack of action in the case of the GSD's Bruno and Lulu (reference number 1213916869). I will now donate to the last chance rescue centre instead.
My bank advised me to inform you that I have just stopped the direct debit.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Don't you think you're all being a bit harsh??? The RSPCA is a CHARITY. They have limited funds and there is only so much they can do. Whatever horror stories you think you might have, there are probably even worse things going on that the RSPCA have to focus their time and money on. I'm sure they'd love to help everyone and every animal but they just can't.
If you find an injured animal DO NOT call the RSPCA. Random injured animals is not what the RSPCA is for. In situations like this you should take the animal yourself to the nearest vets. Vets are required by their own codes of practice to do what they can (within reason) for injured animals and they will usually be more than happy to deal with it.
The RSPCA has a mandate to attend and rescue sick and injured animals.
I can also tell you that they also have millions of £s in profits. Yet lesser local animal rescues struggle to make ends meet and the RSPCA are well placed to help some of them by using some of their obscene profits instead of spending it on uniforms to make them look like Police Officers (this is why they have ranks such as Inspector...all done to intimidate the public because they have no powers).............Yet they are always pleading poverty in their appeals for money !
I have also seen the RSPCA van pull into the yard of a local animal rescue we were a part of and unload dogs and place them with the rescue who were struggling to stay open I also witnessed then loading up dogs from the same local rescue to take back with them to have them destroyed. They were called "Death Row Dogs"...nothing was medically wrong with the dogs the RSPCA took except that they had been in the rescue centre for a while and they termed them as "stickers".
We also have a blind border collie from a farm. He arrived at the rescue centre 5 minutes after the RSPCA had arrived to collect "Death row Dogs". The "Inspector" ordered that Merlin be placed in his van as he would take him to be destroyed as he would never have a "life". It was pointed out that Merlin had not yet been "booked" in as a rescue dog and therefore the RSPCA or Himself had no powers at all.
Within 10 minutes I had Merlin standing up, he was too scared to stand after escaping from the farm and spending 10 days roaming the Welsh mountains with his tummy bleeding where he has crawled everywhere on him tummy too scared to stand and walk in case he fell down the mountain. He was running aeround our 3 tiered patio within minutes of getting him home and now is one of the most happiest and loving dogs you coulsd ever come across....................but the RSPCA were prepared to end his little life without any thought !
I have also been involved with animal rescue for many years now and run a free lost and found service on the internet. We also rescue abandoned and abused dogs so I think I am qualified to state what I am putting here.
I also run several forums on the internet which has nothing to do with animals in any way.
I put a question to all my members on each forum...5 forums in all. The question was: WHAT do you think the RSPCA do.
Answer from EVERY member was: They rescue abused and abandoned animals.
When I told them that they were wrong they didn't believe me so, I got EVERY member to ring their local RSPCA and tell them this:
That they had seen a dog outside in their street for the last 2 weeks which looked ill, obviously grossly underweight and bedraggled and was badly limping.
Every member was told several different things...1) Sorry they didn't have time to attend...2) Sorry but it was not their problem go call the Police......3) Take the dog in yourself and either keep it and take it to a vet or to the Police station.
They were all disgusted at the results. Now, keep in mind that these members...over 200 of them, are scattered all across the UK including Scotland.
The RSPCA were deliberately in severe breach of their own mandate and responded in every instance with a couldn't care less attitude.
Also, if anyone thinks that the RSPCA can do no wrong and that this post is just nastiness on my part, then take a look at the website, animadversion situated on the
cheetah .webtribe.net which is ALL based on FACT and is checkable...in particular take a look at what happened at the RSPCA's OWN Animal Shelter in Newport Gwent.
Now tell me I'm wrong !
That website is here: www cheetah.webtribe.net/~animadversion/0 -
Like most members of the general public, I believed that the RSPCA was a force for good. The last year has taught be different. I reported serious concerns about two dogs left out 24/7 in all weathers with no shelter. Most of the time these dogs were also chained. It took three months of pestering before the RSPCA finally took any real action and gave the owner an improvement order. This at least meant that the dogs were not always chained. The owner kidded the inspector that the dogs also had free access to shelter. Despite photographic evidence to the contrary, the RSPCA continued to believe this man. One of the dogs, Bruno, spent every single minute of every single day of his life outside on bare concrete without shelter or a comfortable bed.
Correction, this vile owner, knowing his dog was not well, sold a dying Bruno to a complete stranger for £200. So poor Bruno actually experienced what it was like to lie on a comfy bed and to eat decent food and be loved and cared for before he collapsed two weeks later with advanced cancer and kidney failure and sadly had to be euthanised.
If the RSPCA had done its job, Bruno could have had a year or more of proper care and a happy life. Instead, he continued to suffer, a sick dog, lying on bare concrete in rain hail and snow. For me, Bruno has become a symbol for the lack of action taken by the RSPCA when so many animals are suffering.
As for their 'limited' funds. In 2007, they received more than £114,000,000 and in 2008, their income was in excess of £119,000,000. The bulk of this money came from the gullible general public. Approximately £5,000,000 came from investments! Imagine how many hundred of millions the RSPCA must have in investments to get this kind of return! At the last count, they had more than £108,000,000 in free reserves and they have more than £225,000,000 in fixed assets. They keep somewhere between £10million to £15million in the bank as ready cash. Anyone can view these figures for themselves. NONE of this vast wealth goes the to the RSPCA's 174 local branches which are all separately registered charities run mostly by volunteers who work hard to raise all their own funding.
IT IS TIME FOR SERIOUS QUESTIONS TO BE PUT TO THE CHARITIES COMMISSION AND ALSO GOVERNMENT AS TO WHERE ALL THIS MONEY IS GOING.0 -
I think it is definately time for the charity commision to get involved .....how can we move forward ...maybe set up a group ???any ideas anybody.???0

The only way forward to achieve this would be:
1) People would need to be educated about the "real" R.S.P.C.A.
2) A petition signed by thousands of people including the local rescues / animal sanctuaries etc'
Then the petition would have to be presented to Prime Minister.
A Lobby Group would have to be set up to Lobby MPs and also get people to write to their local MPs.
Someone or a group would have to Lobby the media to get national coverage.
A monumental task but one worth undertaking.0 -
Welcome Prime Mover, Bruno's story has me in tears, that poor dog. Bless the person who gave him a comfortable final couple of weeks.
When I think of what a fraction of that obscene financial reserve would do for local animal charities I want to scream at the injustice of it.
I've been browsing the Charities Commission website and I think that may be the first place to start, here is (I hope) a link to the issues that they want to know about.
I think the RSPCA is failing in its duty to beneficiaries (animals); non compliance with its own objectives and damaging public trust.
Taking on the RSPCA is never goint to be easy, but is it worth a try?My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Although I am totally shocked and disgusted by this - I am not surprised. This is not the first time the RSPCA have killed animals unnecessarily and it will not be the last. In 2008, the RSPCA euthanised 8,500 dogs and 12,500 cats. Not all of the dogs and cats were ill or aggressive or generally unhomable. By the RSPCA's own admission, they 'reluctantly' euthanise healthy animals that have been in their 'care' for too long because they believe this is cruel. How long is too long? The local RSPCA (franchised branches) usually have policies which enable them to keep animals for several months. However, the National Policy is very different, particularly in the case of animals of 'unknown origin'. With the latter, the RSPCA shows no compunction when declaring that these unfortunate animals will be euthanised after only 7 days.
Why is it that small underfunded charities and rescue centres have non-euthanising policies for healthy animals yet the RSPCA kills countless numbers unnecessarily whilst stashing away millions of pounds of OUR money donated by US in the mistaken belief that animals will be safe in their care??
It is all about cost. It is much cheaper to euthanise a cat or a dog than it is to spend time and money on boarding costs or rehabilitation. As for the ten tragic German Shepherds it was definitely cheaper to shoot the terrified animals than to spend time and money on calming or sedating them before euthanising them properly and allowing them a dignified death. And it was infinitely cheaper than spending even more time and money in sedating and removing the dogs to a safe place before contacting the appropriate German Shepherd rescues for assistance from people who have experience of the breed and who have indicated they would have been more than happy to take the dogs.
Nothing in fact has changed. In 1984, the RSPCA 'hit squad' went in to the Gwent RSPCA branch and killed many dogs because they decreed that this particular branch had broken the rules on how many dogs should be allowed in the kennels. This was during the time of the miners' strikes when more and more familes could no longer afford to keep their dogs. The manager of the Gwent Branch, Bernice Jones, found herself in the unenviable position of having to choose between taking in an increased number of dogs or turning them away to an uncertain fate. Bernice felt she had no choice but to take the extra dogs. After initial letters from Head Office warning her she was breaking the rules, (Please note there were no offers of help to alleviate the situationthe) a 'hit squad' arrived one day, unannounced, and proceeded to cull the surplus dogs.
The volunteer staff were distraught. Some of them felt they had to check the still-warm bodies of the dogs in their black bin bags to make sure they were definitely dead. One volunteer subsequently tried to commit suicide after this atrocity. Bernice Jones posted the whole story on the internet, and I have personally spoken to a man who confirmed that this terrible act took place.
Like I said - nothing's changed.0 -
We hope you are as disgusted as we are. Hard to believe that an organisation claiming to be acting in the best interests of the animals would shoot 10 GSD's with a captive bolt. There are many GSD rescues this one included, who would have taken these dogs and rehabilitated them
I agree, but there was no money to be made from them by the RSCPA so this is their answer..........as usual !:mad:0
