We hope you are as disgusted as we are. Hard to believe that an organisation claiming to be acting in the best interests of the animals would shoot 10 GSD's with a captive bolt. There are many GSD rescues this one included, who would have taken these dogs and rehabilitated them

    Welcome Jayne :-)

Did the RSPCA leave it completely to the relatives in this case to try to find alternative rescue for the 10 dogs without picking up the phone themselves?

It sounds as if they killed those dogs in such a gross fashion on the word of people they knew could not have known a great deal about. If the RSPCA won't even spend the cost of a few phone calls to save the lives of animals then they really no longer deserve their charit status,

I'm not saying the family involved didn't try, but I think someone calling from the RSPCA might have met with a better response than the family would have gotten whe trying to place 10 GSDs!
In your experience do the RSPCA communicate much with the smaller, specialist rescues?
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I would also like to comment on this last question you put to Jayne.

I have been involved with animals sanctuaries for years and it is my experience during those years that the RSPCA never, not once communicated with the sanctuary, which is well known in South Wales. The ONLY times we wopuld see the RSPCA was when they would turn up to either dump dogs on us or to remove dogs that had been in the sanctuary for a while (known as "stickers") and havbe them destroyed.

  • Keith - are you saying this happened at the local branch of the RSPCA in South Wales? Or are you saying that these inspectors dumped dogs on other animal rescues and took dogs (stickers) from these too? Either way, do you know if this is this still happening?
  • To the best of my knowledge it was happening to several small rescues and yes, it was the local RSPCA that were responsible but I suspect that this was on orders from their head office.

Not sure if it still happens as I have not been involved with a sanctuary for a couple of years now but I have no reason to believe that it is any different today.

  • The problem with the RSPCA is that the branches are all run independently - like a franchise network

I agree with there Jayne but even so their directives come from RSPCA head quarters.

The thing is all this about them has been aired publically for years in newspapers, internet and public outcry but it has done no good at all and although there are MPs who agree with what we are saying thats as far as they are willing to go.......gutless wonders but would, like the RSPCA, would be the first to shout out publically if it were to become a BIG story in the media and the cameras were around.

    Keith
  • I think its because they know the RSPCA are a massive organisation with stacks of money and that the Queen is their Patron and also the logistics of getting people who have the experience in these things to do it may well prove difficult.

Lets face it, they could also make life difficult for some rescues or sanctuaries if they wanted to and they can pull more strings than a puppeteer !

I would like nothing more than to see the RSPCA brought to book and regulated stringently by the Government or independant body that would take no crap.
