MSE News: Warning for Scottish Power customers on fixed rate deals

My saving by changing elsewhere was pretty negligible too...... very similar to yours. I guess I could have explored cashback sites, but to date SP haven't upset me enough to make it feel worth the effort (and aggro) of changing - especially as I have a hefty credit balance I'd then have to fight to get back !!!Cheryl0

File this under you couldnt make it up...
Just rung SP as my account is still showing capped online, and this after numerous calls and emails over the past few weeks (and clicking their official email link)to MAKE SURE THIS DIDNT HAPPEN!
Apparently I have to now wait 24 hours til it changes online after the lady on the other end said she will amend it now...
:mad::mad: They are not getting to Eon levels yet ...but they are not far off!
*update* Fair play to SP Lady, she manually changed it over to standard, and thats showing on my account now. What a palaver though!0 -
My account still said it was on the 'Fixed' price on 1st Sept.
I called that day and asked to be switched to OES6 rather than the capped one.
Logged on yesterday to check it had been done, and it says 'Online Saver' - but there doesn't appear to be anyway to check it's on the right Energy Saver tariff until my first bill.
And as part of switching she asked for readings taken that day (which I had to hand as I'd planned to enter them myself). Despite my account showing my Direct Debit has been reduced by £6/month from 1st Sept (this after dropping £7/month last month following a chap forcing an annual review on my account), there's still no bill using those readings.
So I've submitted them myself today, with a reading date of Tuesday. Shall have to monitor my account from tomorrow to see what happens with them nowCheryl0 -
As my fixed deal with SP ended on 31st Aug I called SP on 22nd August and asked that I wasn't put on the capped deal but to instead put me on the standard tariff. I've just logged onto my SP account and it says I'm now on the capped rate. Who would have thought that would happen!
I commenced my switch to EDF on 22nd August anyway and so hopefully that will go through fairly quickly. I'll probably fire out an e-mail to SP to see if they can correct their mistake.
Up to now I have to say that SP have been absolutely great. I guess all good things come to an end.0 -
hello
i am a bit confused by this. I am with Scottish Power since Dec 4th last year. i am on "Fixed Price NSC OL". Does this issue affect me, and if so what should i do about it?
I was thinking of shopping around again when my contract is up in december, to try and get a better deal again0 -
It won't affect you until December, and how much it affects you then will depend on the packages then available from all the different suppliers. If you were to change now there's almost certainly an early termination penalty clause in your contract - both my Fixed Price (which has just ended, but was an on-line no standing charge like yours) and my new Online Energy Saver 6 contracts have one (which, as I'm dual fuel, amounts to £50)Cheryl0

I was (or still am on) SP's "fixed price energy online" ending 30 September 2009. According to the page "Capped tariff ending?:..." on the front page of MSE there is no exit fee on this one. (Can't link to it sorry - forum won't let me)
I commeced a swith to npower, some online deal top on a comparison site... anyway, got a call this evening from SP saying that I'm going to incur a £50 exit fee!
They then said they would waiver the fee if I stay with them on another deal. I feel like I'm being bribed. I said that I thought there was no exit fee and that's why I switched when I did, but they said that all these product have an early exit fee!
Which is correct, SP sales people or the MSE page (linked above). I'm going to phone them tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind.0 -

Will it not be detailed in your T&C's that SP sent you? There is a lot of devil in the detail as you trawl through it. I have found over the past 2 weeks that SP customer services are a mixed bunch of helpfulness, you might feel more frustrated afterwards then you do now. Good luck though.0 -

ok, thanks. so i just need to sit tight till december and have a look around then, which is what i was planning to do anyway. happy with the first year.0 -
From energyhelpline:Under the Fixed Price Energy December 2009 Offer, your unit prices are fixed until 30th November 2009. These prices are higher than ScottishPower's current monthly Direct Debit prices by an equivalent of £1.00 (inc VAT) for gas per month and £1.00 (inc VAT) for electricity per month. Please note that your monthly payments may vary depending on how much energy you use. Because ScottishPower are buying the energy in advance, they may apply cancellation charges inclusive of VAT of £30 for electricity and £20 for gas if you switch to Fixed Price Energy December 2009 but then cancel your supply contract or switch to another tariff before the 30th November 2009. These charges will not be applied if the supply contract is cancelled due to a home move.
Watch out for the T&Cs in future, this is the most discredited industry in the UK after all.Call me Carmine....
